Quick Bites

  • Steve Dolinsky, Chicago's own "Hungry Hound," has a blog. And a podcast! And teaches a course called "Culinary Communications 101," for those who want to learn how to speak "food" to the media. Of the three, we recommend the podcast. We've listened to a couple and they are smart, informative and well-produced.

  • The Spertus Institute's much anticipated Kosher Wolfgang Puck outpost leaves something to be desired. "It’s clear the famous chef doesn’t have a lot of shame where branding is involved," TOC critic David Tamarkin writes. "Still, I can’t see what’s in this partnership for either party. Puck gets a measly selection of premade salads and sandwiches to his name; meanwhile, Spertus has no doubt shelled out a chunk of change for the privilege of his reputation. But nobody wins here—particularly not the diners." But The Stew says stop by anyway, for the serene, light-filled dining space.

  • Via Dish, we learned that Chef Laurent Gras is now a blogger as well; he documents the progress of L.2O, his new Lettuce Entertain You restaurant.

  • Gourmet's Diary of a Foodie is back on the air!... But it isn't broadcast on WTTW. What gives, WTTW? We know that you know we love food. So why no love?

So, the Laurent Gras blog looks really interesting! But I was horrified to see photos of a gutted former Ambria space. I only ate there once (it was fantastic), but I remember the amazing and unique (for Chicago) Viennese/art nouveau interior. What has happened to all that gorgeous stuff? I would love to pick up some artifacts.
