I can't wait until our Best Buys play the Circuit Citys.
-Navin (brought to you by Carl's Jr. fuck you I'm eating!)
UGH
Seriously? I thought only t-ball teams and such had to stoop so low as to include such blatant advertising on their jerseys. Wow...
most european sports are worse. their uniforms and stadiums look like nascar cars. is "nascar car" redundant?
i think it's hugely more of an adidas ad than best buy.
the real question i have is, what's up with the weird curved hem on the shorts?

Mingus_Dew...
Not paying too much attention to the rest of the world, are we?
I had been planning to my first Chicago Fire game.
Upon seeing that they are now named the "Best Buys," I have changed my mind.
This is pure stupidity.
what team am I watching? Who the hell are the Best Buys? Why do they get rid of the Chicago and the Fire. The ad should be around the city or team name not the center pice.
Ryan P-
eh. i don't have cable. i'm too busy with american idol, biggest loser, wife swap, nanny 911, etc. my schedule is just too booked to worry about 'the rest of the world' as you call it.
:o)
where else are they supposed to get the money? i know i haven't been forking over any money for tickets, or merch, or, you know, anything remotely related to soccer. how many of us knew what the fire jersey looked like before?
and seriously, check out the images that pop up when you google the english premier league
not exactly ad-free. they're the same as the fire: giant ad in the middle, little team emblem above it.
Commenting on the comments: Americans will never understand professional soccer.
In the professional soccer (football) world a team (side) is considered somewhat amateurish if they do not have a jersey (kit) sponsor. Most of the money (outside of the owner's pockets) needed for transfer fees/payments comes from the sponsors. Stadiums aren't named like they are here (i.e. US Cellular Field), so they "brand" the jerseys...so on and so forth...

Seriously, people are really upset about this? Have you ever been to a soccer game?
I can't think of a single decent European soccer team that doesn't sport a huge logo on the chest. In fact, most European teams don't have a team logo or name anywhere on the jersey aside from a small patch, and these are teams with HUGE budgets.
Real Madrid has BWIN on their jersey, ManU has a massive AIG logo, Chelsea with Samsung, and so on...
My guess is five years until you see this material on Cubs jerseys, Bears jerseys, etc... It is too huge a revenue stream to pass up, and its not like people will stop watching.
Oh, and enough with the dumb Americans can't understand the sophistication of European football. Its grown men trying to put a ball in a net, which is no more or less intelligent than any popular sports here. The players are just as dumb as athletes in MLB, NBA, etc...
Soccer nerds,
FWIW I think many people know that this is the norm in Europe and still think it's lame. I hope it never happens in baseball but I'm sure it will eventually.
They're still called the Fire, you nobs. How many of you have been to a game? it's the best sports experience in Chicago. (The NY team actually is called the Red Bulls, which is lame).
As others have pointed out, European teams have had sponsor logos on their jerseys for 25 years, and you can be sure it'll be happening in other US pro sports soon. (You can thank Nascar for that, not soccer).
Whoever said stadiums aren't named after corporations in Europe: what about (just in England's Premiership) Emirates Stadium (Arsenal), Reebok Stadium (Bolton), and JJB Stadium (Wigan). Just about any new stadium these days is corporate-sponsored, and british fans are about as happy about that as you are about these jerseys.
No one ever seems to have a problem with Wrigley Field being named by the industrialist that built it, you might have heard of his chewing gum business. Sure, "Wrigley Field" rolls off the tongue better than 1-800-JagWaffle.com Stadium, but it's not that much different.
Thanks illnoise, Louis and Ryan. And to you other a__hats, NO this is not going to happen in baseball and football anytime soon.
My only complaint is the sponsor should be Morton Salt or Shure or something.
I agree with that, it's a shame it isn't a local sponsor. The MLS is sort-of run centrally, it might have been a situation where major sponsors have to work through the league rather than directly with a team.
It's cool to see someone like Norwich (last season) sponsored by Lotus (in their backyard) or West Ham sponsored by a local car dealer a few years ago. The perfect example was Newcastle sponsored by Newcastle Brown Ale, it was a shame to see that change. They sold as many jerseys to beer fans as they did to soccer fans.
go arsenal!
