If that stupid twat from Little Miss Sunshine got a nod, then Ellen Page definitely deserves the award. Echoing the sentiment of a previous poster: she was amazing in Hard Candy. Even younger, no less! She's got quite the career ahead of her.

For the first ten minutes, "Juno" had too many ultra-clever phrases coming from Ellen Page's character. Then, she settled down a bit, the story moved along, and the movie really made you think. I thought it was great.

Forget not the fact that Diablo Cody was nominated for "Juno's" screenplay. Besides having one of the most awesome nom de plums in recent history, she's also a Chicagoan by birth.

No, jasmine, that's an excellent point. Those Music & Lyrics tunes are pretty terrific. And the fact The Simpsons wasn't nominated is truly baffling.

According to Pitchfork (now with extra snark) Greenwood's score for Blood wasn't eligible because most of the music wasn't written specifically for the movie. I enjoyed the score thoroughly though. Loudon should have been nominated but i feel like the Academy still clings to the kind of crap that's in a Disney soundtrack. The Elton John, Phil Collins, Amy Grant garbage that they used to churn out in the 80s and 90s. They don't want to allow too many "normal" songs in there like Loudon or stuff from Once.

I was hoping (against hope, apparently) that Superbad would get a nomination for best original screenplay. Also, I think Loudon Wainwright III should have been nominated for at least one of the oodles of great songs he wrote for "Knocked Up" -- "Daughter", "Valley Morning", or "X or Y". Lastly, Imelda Staunton as Dolores Umbridge in "Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix". Scariest villain of the year for me, second only to Javier Bardem in "No Country For Old Men", and such a restrained performance. I think the Academy doesn't like restraint, though. If she doesn't at least get an MTV Movie Award nomination, I will start my own damn awards and send her something I made in Print Shop.

"Once" was one of my faves this year--so lovely and restrained. Same for the songs. Totally gorgeous.

The Enchanted soundtrack looks worthless, while several songs in Once could have been nominated. Glad that There Will be Blood didn't get any music nominations for music as, while the movie itself was phenomenal, the Greenwood score was annoying. I can't believe Paul Dano didn't get nominated for Eli/Paul as he was thrilling to watch, but so was Philip Seymour Hoffman. Johnny Depp did not deserve a nomination for that so-so movie. Anyway, Helena Bonham Carter did much better in her role. I watch too many movies.

yeah but Page is the one who played the character so she gets the nom. she deserves it too. I know some people are saying she's not acting, she's just playing herself. if you think that you obviously haven't seen Hard Candy. she can act, she has the skills.

The foreign films were waaay off. No La Vie En Rose, no 4 weeks... None of the ones that got Golden Globe nods. Weird. And I don't think Ellen Page deserved it. If she deserves an Oscar nomination for that role, so does Gen Y, because that is basically the "character" she played.

Where the hell is 'Gone Baby Gone' in all of these nominations? (besides best supporting actress) That movie was incredible... I didn't think I could, but I actually liked it better than the Departed. Very disappointed...
