Shame about Fan Si Pan. And I have to hand it to the BH people for owning up. I was a regular at both iterations, but after their move there was a real dip in quality and service. Better to be small and great than big and 'meh'.

West Town (god that's a weird name for this area) has alot of "no joy". The Echo Gallery closed, and there is tons of commercial space on Chicago just waiting for shops. Considering how crowded division between Damen and Ashland has gotten with shops/food/bars you'd think there'd be more movement just a bit south. With the new dominicks it's pretty booming.

About a year ago I was looking for retail space in the area. Some of the leasers are a little nuts here. One place wanted easily 3x the market value of the space she was renting out plus 2 months deposit. Utterly nuts. That place is still sitting vacant. Fail.

Godfuckingdamnit. I knew Painted Lady (which I loved, by the way) was closing because I was in there this weekend, and the employees were letting everyone know. However, I did NOT know about Fan Si Pan and am now near tears that two of my favorite Chicago Ave. places to pick up a quick lunch are closed. I will have sweet, sweet, heavenly dreams about that honeydew limeade until the day I die.
