Don't Underestimate Frozen Food on Those Cold Winter Nights

2008_01_mac_cheese.jpgSome days, we just don't feel like cooking and can't be bothered to start the car. That's when you realize that you've underestimated frozen food. Ahh, frozen food. The bachelor's friend. The easy girl at your favorite bar. Let's enjoy her, shall we? Our bar today is Trader Joe's. Let's see what he has to offer.

Breakfast – Start off relatively guilt free with some frozen, steel-cut oatmeal. 4 grams of fiber, 5 grams of protein and only 150 calories per serving. At only $0.80 a serving, this can't be beat. Like the nice, somewhat homely girl at the bar, you'll feel like you did something good after trying it.

Lunch – Indulge in some frozen mac 'n cheese. If oatmeal was the plain Jane of your day, this four cheese, perfectly cooked pasta meal is that hot blonde in the corner you know you should avoid but can't get yourself to turn away from. It's a heart-stopper and the Trader Joe's happily lists it as an employee favorite. They've all passed away from heart disease but the victims still line up. This stuff is great.

Dinner – End your day with a spicy number by whipping up some chimichurri rice. Add some frozen corn to add some sweetness and balance out the spice and toss in some frozen chicken breast strips make it into a well rounded meal you could take home to mother.

What's your favorite frozen food indulgence? Give us her number.

Thanks, Laura!

"The easy girl at your favorite bar. Let's enjoy her, shall we?"

I'm sorry but this line just evokes scenes from "The Accused" for me.

Also, bachelorettes enjoy frozen food too, y'know.

Who's to say bachelorettes don't enjoy the easy girl at your favorite bar?

Nothing, but that's not how this post is worded.

Home Run Inn's frozen sausage pizza is the my regular booty call that always makes me feel guilty in the morning...

Home Run Inn pizza SHOULD make you feel guilty. Granted, it is absolutely delicious--but a large has 80 grams of fat! EIGHTY. I am not sure you can house a large like me. I used to do it quite often but have changed my evil ways.

I love Trader Joes though. Their pizza is no HRI but still good.

This girl doesn't need to scope out a hot tamale for a lunchtime rendezvous. I keep them frozen at the office. (Trader Joe's makes decent tamales, but the best ones are from a dive in Berwyn).

lean cuisine's paninis have grown on me.

The Trader Joes, brick oven Italian style pizza is the best frozen pizza I've ever had. HRI is pretty damn good though!

A2-I can definitely house a large Home Run Inn Pizza, but after quite a few morning-afters, I generally opt for the little ones these days...

TJ's mac & cheese is heaven!
