Art Shay is without a doubt one of the greatest photographers this city ever produced. For sixty years he's captured some of the most iconic images of city life. His 1988 book Nelson Algren's Chicago (Visions of Chicago) inspired scores of photographers, both professional and amateur, to pick up their cameras and pound the pavement looking for the perfect shot.
The above shot isn't our favorite - that would be Simone de Beauvoir nude in Algren's bathroom - but with winter in full force this week, it's the most fitting.

Stroger Makes Hollywood Play

I cannot figure out what is happening in that photo...shovel full of snow to the face? Bus kicking up slush? Massive snowball?
Additionally, there appears to be the face of an old man in that snow in the right of the frame.
Me! Four weeks ago( 8:00am) waiting for the Kimball Bus as a Streets and Sans Snow Truck drives by. I know I shouldn't have worn my favorite hat I brought second hand in New Orleans three weeks before Katrina!
It has been a joy hunting down many of the places in Art Shay's photographs, especially along Division Street!
I want that book!
Anyway it's clear the guy in the photo's being mauled by a Chicago Yeti..
