I agree that REM at the United Center is no fun. Pearl Jam was able to pull it off, but they are kind of built for places like that anyway. Some of the good qualities of REM are lost in that type of arena, but I wonder if they may be unable to play smaller venues do to demand?

United Center, not my favorite place. Last time I went to R.E.M. at United Center (my first time ever seeing my favorite band, because they never really toured my native clog-filled land), this guy on something else than booze kept screaming "Orange Crush!" and kept throwing his head back, hitting me in the legs. He wasn't even ticketed for that seat in front of me. I told security, who did nothing. Later the guy stands up and swirls around and tumbles a couple of rows down. His bloody head didn't keep him from still yelling "Orange Crush!" Security came, but was scared to come near the guy until a couple of songs later. Now, I'm all about rocking out and stuff, but I hope this one will be memorable for the band, not some crack head ruining my day... Now that I remember; R.E.M. did play "Orange Crush" that night... after the guy got taken away...

I'm shocked that R.E.M.'s tour date for Chicago is at the United Center. Their last few albums havent sold for shit and they're not on the Monster tour anymore. They're not at the top of their game and there's no way they'll sell enough tickets to necessitate performing at the UC. Nothing against R.E.M., I like them a lot, but their booking agent needs to get realistic.

Way better than the original due to: 1) Banjo mixed higher 2) Less gloss on the vocals 3) Muppet version of Kate Pierson as enjoyable as actual Kate Pierson 4) Filmed prior to Stipe's humorectomy
