Back in the day, Chicagoans didn't get around on the CTA. They got around on the Surface Lines, which operated mass transit in the city from 1913-1927. And Robert Loerzel found a transfer recently in an old, used book. So cool. (click for original size)

Wow, this reminds me of the old newsprint transfers the CTA used into the 90s--up to the hole-punched transfer time at the top. Good find!
Chicago Surface Lines lasted until 1947, not 1927.
It was the largest operator of streetcars in the world.
Then the CTA took it over because it was bankrupt, caused by the corrupt politicians of the day which kept the fare artificially low for decades & wouldn't allow a fare increase.
The brand new CTA ,of course raised fares immediately!
