It's posts like this that are retarded and basically just the editors masturbating over "user-generated content" that push good stories with decent comment threads down on the page, encouraging fewer people to click and discuss.
I would argue that these stupid flickr additions to Chicagoist are undemocratic because they in effect stifle discussion.
I like the photo features. I don't have time to go through the Flickr stream and look at all the photos tagged "Chicagoist" so I like that some of the good ones are featured here.
And featuring reader photos isn't a new thing.. we've been doing it for years.
if it's so retarded spav, scroll past it.
some people enjoy a random photo in their day.
it's not THAT hard to roll a mouse wheel an extra half turn....
The pictures wouldn't be so bad if they weren't from the same people every day. We get it: TheeErin takes a lot of photos of awkward public transit moments, and pantagrapher is responsible for half the content on this site, both written and pictorial. Enough already.
The photos aren't even very good, either technically or content-wise. Photography stopped being a skill in the late 90's. It is offically a craft, along with pottery and macaroni picture frames. I suggest we send those to Chicagoist.
Wow, Spav, we agree again, about the general worthlessness of modern photography. What the hell is going on? I liked it better when you were an idiot, and I was, too. I like your craft idea, but I am more concerned about the lack of context and truth in photography, and how photograpy often pretends to be more than it is, and has a false intimacy, but that's another subject, I guess.

i gotta agree. if anything, the 'contribute' photo on the left should be given more focus...instead of inserting ads into chicagoist's logo.

Hey Margaret, forget all these complainers!

Toni Morrison's Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech
in 1993 "The Bird in Our Hand: Is It Living or Dead?"

Chicagoist Febuary T shirt Winner-Elect
I like the random photos too. They are special treats like the pretzel nuggets in Chubby Hubby.
Isn't the great thing about the interweb that there is plenty of space?

Tilda:
Does this mean the barfight is off?
I think the "Chicagoist Commenter of the Month" should be like the campaign for the Pope.
Anyone who openly campaigns for it should immediately be barred because it'd be seen as gauche. And no one would openly admit to wanting the title.
But then again, that'd take class and tact.
No, Spav, barfights are good no matter what, and fun for participants and spectators alike. Let's not get all Dr Phil on each other.
Hates puppies, think your clever right, you with your stupid puppy picture. Its MY shirt!
And I didn't campaign for it, I guess you missed the "elect" next to my name son.
So like Monk( from Marlow Stanfield's crew)said to CuttyWise, before he shot him, "step the F*ck off Old man"
Ya Hater!
