Here's the deal with the photo. It's not my photo, but I know the spot where it was taken. Picture yourself standing near the east part of the new Stroger Hospital. You are looking to the northeast.

The wall of the nearly-demolished building, i.e., the wall with the arched windows still remaining, is the western wall of the Powerhouse building for the old Cook County Hospital.

In the distance at the far right edge, you can see the 1960's-built Hektoen Institute building. In the distance in the middle right, you can see the two easternmost of the four projecting wings that project to the south from the Old Cook County Hospital building. The four projecting wings will be demolished, with two of them already gone.

In the distance on the left, you can see the somewhat bland, rear (i.e., the southern elevation) of the main portion of the Old Cook County Hospital building. On the other side of this building is the stunning facade that we all know from movies and television

This main portion, i.e., the part that runs along Harrison Street, is going to be preserved, thanks to the hard work of preservationists, and thanks to the courage of some Cook County Commissioners who stood up to John Stroger. As soon as the County Board cleans up some of its messes elsewhere, they will finalize the reuse plan for the building.

Unfortunately, I can't see this country having a black or woman president and a black or woman VP. I think they will still need a white man as a VP if the dems want to get the vote.

Richardson may be a good VP. He has a lot of experience, but again, he is Hispanic, and I am sure that will be a factor in the decision.

I do not like that race, ethnicity, and gender influence how someone votes (the best person for the job should get it), but when it comes to the presidency, these things still appear to matter. Whether it really does, or if the media drives that illusion, I don't know.

These two wont be on the ticket together. The path to the White House is through Ohio or Florida for the Dems. A Good strong canadate from one of those stares is going to be the VP choice. Obama and Clinton both need someone who will help them win one of those two states. About 45 states can be declared for the dems or the GOP right now. Ohio and Florida are all that really matter in november.

Clinton likes to project a certain muscularity, especially in terms of foreign policy... from that perspective, Wesley Clark (if he can be a better campaigner) makes a nice counterpoint to McCain. Bill Richardson makes sense, too, if (again) he can learn to campaign.

I'd think Obama would find Edwards a pretty nice fit.

I don't think Hilary would have much interest in being a VP, not just because it's a step down, but also because the post is a stepping stone to the presidency and waiting eight years in relative obscurity to make a run doesn't much seem her style.

unfortunately i'm not sure those two could come to terms with running second fiddle. a powerful ballot it would (and i'm not saying i'd vote for them).
