Mail Call

Ugh, Chicago's post office is the worst. No, literally, it's still the worst in America when it comes to in-town deliveries and one-day service. At least we're improving?

Mail sent between Chicago ZIP codes arrived the next day 94 percent of the time -- up from 90 percent the first three months of 2007.

The Postal Service has added more than 300 new letter carriers, updated its equipment and improved its database since March. But it still seems to us like mail takes for ever to get here, and the reliability of a letter making it into the correct mailbox in any given apartment building is low, low, low. [Trib, S-T, ABC 7]

I've gotten countless netflix dvds (and regular mail) belonging to other people on my block or even from blocks away. Had many lost or arrived broken myself.

I've been surprised lately. I mailed out a crap load of cards and everyone reached their destination with in ONE day, at most two. And this includes people in Floirda, Michigan, Washington state.

But yeah, Monday was sort of crappy weather wise so I guess mail-dude just quit before he made it to my mail box...

They are the worst. You just have to hope that the 50% of your mail you receive will include the important stuff.

does it count as getting to me in one day if my mail carrier crams our entire apartment building's mail into one box, and then that person leaves the giant stack on the step inside 2 days later? because that's how i apparently get all of my mail.

Yes that counts. Sorry. :(

On a cold wintry day like today - track down your mail carrier and give them a 1/5th of Crown Royal and tell them thanks for a great job and tell them you hope they stay warm - your mail delivery will be perfect for quite a while ...

i'm still glad that mail works most of the time. Jus t think about how much goes into delivering a letter. Would you want do do all the work and deliver it yourself? Or even think of the days when it was delievered by horse. I bet they lost a lot of mail now. Yeah, we have technology now, and things should be better. But i'm just glad that it still only costs 42 cents to get a piece of paper from one place to another place hundreds of miles away.
