Pizza IS very subjective. Chicagoans and New Yorkers think that they cannot be beat, but that's pretty close- minded and actually laughable. Chicago's signature pizza was invented by a Texan who was trying to cross enchiladas with calzones! Not for everybody. I guess when your city is run like Moscow, Russia- you are programmed to think that your city is great in every way when it's really just fair- then yeh, I guess you would scoff at the great pizzas of places like New Haven, Phoenix, Philly, or St. Louis.

I don't see any reason why Lexington, KY doesn't have better pizza than Chicago. Do you *really* like either deep dish or cracker-thin crust? Well, that's 95% of Chicago pizza. Deep dish has *way* too much cheese and fillings, cracker crust is too light on toppings and weak on crust. All some people are left with is the italian-style, NY-ish floppy thin crust. Which is good, if you have the right toppings and sauce. But the selection is average at best. Pizza is a very subjective thing, which is why you'll find people from Lexington, or Austin, or Kansas City, who don't like eating pizza crackers or pizza casserole. They like actual pizza. And Chicago just doesn't rate..

@dan_l Amen. If someone honestly thinks Lexington Fucking Kentucky has better pizza than Chicago, then that person pretty much hates pizza in general.

Tower18: There's a Hungry Howie's in Naperville, believe it or not. Am I the only one that misses the "Pizza Pizza" from Little Caesars? This "Hot and Ready" jazz just don't do it for me.

@Joe Blow. I totally agree. Chicago has the worst pizza of any place I've ever lived - Philly, New Jersey, Lexington, KY, Cleveland. There's some good pizza, but overall it's pretty bad. Don't know where the rep came from.

I've never had decent pizza outside of the Chicago or New York metropolitan areas. Maybe I'm just not as well traveled... I heard Boston has some decent pies, but I've never been there.

Actually, it was Columbia, Mo. And while I'd rather have Shakespeare's Pizza there, they didn't deliver as late as Gumby's. But, really, I'd rather have Lou Malnati's.

Yelling chain restaurant pizza in Chicago is like yelling "fire" at the movies. I'm surprised to see so few comments. @wyse "God I miss Papa John's. Every time I go back to Louisville, I order..." You just miss your family. Oh man...now I'm all homesick for the Burger King in Raleigh. Thanks a lot! @xlprg "It's too bad there are no Gumby's Pizza here" Drink in Madison much? I'd rather have Ian's.

I read somewhere awhile back that Christmas Eve (or was it the Wednesday before Thanksgiving) was actually the busiest day for pizza delivery. I cant seem to find it though. Either way, the chains and the mom's and pop's stand to make a killing on all three very busy days.

No self-respecting native Chicagoan would ever opt for chain pizza. I was stuck in a small Wisconsin town several years ago and Domino's was the only thing open. Took one bite, and that was enough for me.

It's a damn shame that there are so few Papa John's in Chicago. While I'd certainly prefer a local option, sometimes, you just want cheap assembly-line pizza that's edible, and you don't get that from Dominos or the Hut.

Anyone who DOES order on Sunday better be prepared for some very long delivery wait times. What I've done before is actually order the pizza the day before and then reheat it in the oven (!) Not quite the same as a fresh pizza of course, but you'll be so hungry it won't really matter.
