After the Trib ran a story about Wheeling's Amante Enad roasting pigs in his back yard in traditional Filipino fashion, the village issued him a citation barring the practice and asking him to fork over (hay-oh!) his roasting equipment. [Trib]

Moto-X at Soldier Field? Hell yes. The Chicago Park District is accepting proposals for events at Soldier Field. [S-T]

Adding another odd twist to our city's transit saga, the City Council voted today to increase the real estate transfer tax, and to give that money to the CTA...but only if the CTA gives free rides to active military personnel and disabled veterans. [Trib]

Paging the irony police: A ship carrying road salt is stuck in the frozen waterways of Illinois. [CBS2]

We're the closest -ist to Michigan, we think, so this is our jurisdiction...or...something: A Michigan couple found a dead ram on their property. Then someone decapitated it. And no one will come clean it up. Weird and gross. [AP]

Thanks for showing all of Chicagoist the photo of my weather-worn awning. Yick, I need a new one.

It's time to move when I can recognize instantly any location on the north side of chicago in any picture taken. :(

Also lol at the Ram story. Great summary Margaret.

I actually take great comfort in that. It's one of the things that keeps me here -- always having a general sense of where I am, and where I'm going.

Sorry to hear about Mr. Enad. Doesn't the village of Wheeling realize how delicious freshly roasted lechon is? Though maybe he won't be missing out on much, as Lent begins today. Still, though, I'm ready to protest: "No justice! No peace! No pork!"

"but only if the CTA gives free rides to active military personnel and disabled veterans"

Brilliant. Vote "no" and you hate the troops.
The portions of this "debate" that made it on the news last night were vomit-inducing. In Daley's world, if you don't agree on his plan to finance the CTA you can count on the buses no longer making the rounds in your ward. Perhaps the president is the only one capable of seeing as few shades of gray as our mayor.
