You know what I'd do in this situation? 1) Discovery Center Museum in Rockford-- for my money, a better children's museum than any in Chicago, and not much over an hour away. 2) Swedish-American Museum in Andersonville-- very likable kid play area about the Swedish immigrant experience on the top floor. 3) Aurora Regional Fire Museum-- great little museum full of old time firefighting stuff. 4) Milwaukee Public Museum-- part natural history, part history history, plenty to interest kids and parents for hours. That'll cover a few Saturdays, for starters.
