cozynite, we only listed bands playing official showcases. There are plenty other Chicago band heading down to play day parties and off-SXSW show that weekend as well.

I saw the Cool Kids open for The Go! Team last year at the double door. They got a nice laid back sound. Like good ol Hip Hop from back in the day. Not that overproduced shit like soujah boy and the rest of that garbage.

There are also two other bands that Chicagoist seems to have missed: The Sleepers The Black Oil Brothers They may be my friends, but both are good bands that should have an awesome showing down there.

Guess Mahjongg -- you know, the band that's consistently more inventive than any of the ones singled out in the post -- just doesn't rate anymore. Kontpab's already a top-10 nominee for '08, but you wouldn't know it by the amount of attention (or lack thereof) they get from the Chicago press.

I long for the days when punk music was punk (The Exploited, Sic Pleasure, Black Flag). Not this metal/hip hop crap. I long for the days when a band could make a hate filled song causing the whole place to get into a slam dancing frenzy!! Anybody remember AGNOSTIC FRONT playing at MEDUSAS (early 90's)? The show had to be shut down do to the fact that a fight broke out.

Yes, they reformed last year with their last guitarist (Bill Stephens) and now play semi-regularly. To us it's still not REALLY Naked Raygun without Haggerty, but they put on a fun show nonetheless.
