Sam Zell: I Want To Win

Sam Zell, along with Randy Michaels and Gerry Spector, addressed the Chicago Tribune staff today. Go go gadget eccentric billionaire!

That's his whole talk, and some of the language gets salty.

After listening to Sam Zell I wish I worked for the Tribne Co. That man is a god-damned genius.

Um, instead of linking to a 60 minute video, can you give us the cliff notes?

Cliffs Notes...lots of swearing and hand waving by Zell...c-words, f-words, any words that illicit gasps or audible responses. Then he gives everyone a head start of 10 minutes before he puts his hunting gear on and begins tracking them down like they're game. Newspapers are dying, I hope this guy loses his denim shirt.

"Newspapers are dying, I hope this guy loses his denim shirt."

Newspapers are dying--that is, print as a delivery method is losing popularity that will likely never come back.

But I find it odd you hope Zell loses his shirt. If he loses, that means the Trib tanks--print, Web, TV, radio. If the Trib tanks, Chicago loses--fewer investigations of city corruption, for instance, a situation made worse by the decline of the Sun Times.

I hope Zell finds a way to make the Web paper profitable while still finding a niche for, and money from, the print. And I hope all news organizations find a way out.

If they don't, all citizens are screwed.

doesnt he look so muffin top-y in that picture?

Such a wise, insightful comment, Tumblehome.

You have made me reconsider my previous position.

Great video. We were cheering him on here at the Tribune Tower. woot! I'm glad you posted this. The man has a great passion. I'd like to see him as president of our country.
