I know I'm the only person on Chicagoist who reads that rag, the Redeye, so I thought I'd point out that some-time Chicagoist poster, Mandy O'Reilly, was quoted in today's edition regarding the Starbucks closings. Classic...

Oops. I see that urls don't create links on this site. Maybe this will work?

Those Yelp Reviews I just tried to link to

Yes, it seems to.

It's what you like, I guess. I'd suggest the Bourgeois Pig Cafe, instead.

http://www.yelp.com/biz/bourgeois-pig-cafe-chicago#hrid:MzgMMBxeUMUdQJZ1fyRY1w

The Millenium Park place seems a little too yuppified and touristy for my tastes. Sure, the Pig has the Rachael Ray was here banner outside, but you get inside and its the same neighborhood place it always was.

Oh, and peteypants - the Irish drink tea, too. You might want to be careful with that line in this town. :)

Lavazza does brew some of the best drip coffee I've had in the city. They are also one of the few cafes that manages to get my Americano right most of the time. Dunkin and Starbucks sell dirty dishwater and dirty dishwater with steamed milk. Weak, bitter swill indeed.

We need more Lavazza's. To bad their existing locations are scarce, and hours suck. They would wipe the slate on taste if given the same presence Starbucks/DD's enjoys.

Starbucks is ok in a pinch, but getting my espresso from a true Italian source is my preferred choice ;-)

Lavazza > (Intelligentsia + Illy + Starbucks + Caribou) IMO
