This Little Piggy Went to the Zoo

pinto.jpgIt's no secret that we're big fans of pigs here at Chicagoist (especially the mini variety). So of course we're going to be celebrating National Pig Day today at Brookfield Zoo. Started in 1972 by two sisters in North Carolina (where they also love their pigs), the day was set aside to honor the smart and tasty barnyard beast.

There's going to be a parade, a VW "Pigmobile", live entertainment, pig-themed activities, and our favorite, Pinto the Yucatan miniature pig who plays basketball and OHMIGOD he paints, too. The whole thing kicks off at 10:30 a.m. so start packing that lunch and head out the door soon.

While it's going to be a bit cold today, the sun is out, the wind is calm, and you can always duck into Tropic World to warm up. Besides, the chill helps thin out the stroller pushing herd.

Would it be wrong to celebrate National Pig day with ribs and pulled pork?

@Benjy

I think that would make Pinto a very sad piggy.

A sad piggy, indeed.

That said, here's a recipe for Coca-Cola soaked Ham:

P.S.- Dr. Pepper and 7-Up work great on it, too.

Not at all, and if anybody comes over from the National Kennel Association, here's a great dish to serve them.

Two sisters in North Carolina?
Did they have all their teeth?
I bet you their kids look kinda pigish.

I would much rather have lunch at the Holocaust Museum while a Hitler speech plays in the background and 2 sexy german soldiers flog my but with a copy of mien komph (suggested reading for the kiddies).
