The CTA does have full GPS tracking for all buses. That's how the voice announcement system works. All the driver has to do is punch in the correct route number on the mobile display terminal.

I liked doing the Trivia Night at Sheffields because we (almost) dominated the night and then I got so drunk that I couldn't pay attention for trivial pursuit. But I will try to be more on my game this week. Where's Smussy? And Widdlytinks?

@matty: What's good for you? Thursday at Sheffield's they have their lame trivia thing again, and the beer and food specials were ok. But I only have the 80's-90's-Pop Culture greatest hits game. Smussy would have to be convinced to bring her excellent Millenium Edition to do it right, though. Also, Huberman seems to be doing a great job. Now that he knows he has reliable funding, he seems to be really agressive with the projects again.

@Mike: I KNOW! I'd understand if they couldn't find a way to make it available to customers, but even they have no idea where their own buses are half the time. You know those CTA folks with clipboards at various points all over the city? The ones the drivers have to slow down to check in with? Wouldn't GPS tracking eliminate the need for all those positions? A couple of people from a single terminal somewhere near a major garage could do what dozens of people do everyday. But that would be too simple and would cut down on an assload of "sweetheart" gigs aldermen and precinct captains could hand out to friends and family.

I'm gonna end up shitting a brick the day they integrate GPS mapping on their whole system. Sure, they may still be running late and have bunching everywhere, but at least I'll be able to check on my phone and see where they'll be at.

God damnit FINALLY. I cannot count the number of times when I've been in a cash-less rush to get on a train and the only source nearby is an ATM and I drop a god damn $20 on a pass and never use it again. This was when I lived in libertyville. Long live my new U-Pass.

the CTA is definitely outdated when is comes to the rolling stock, communications, and design but at least they were one of the first to use the smartcard technology. the stuffed bears are quite snazzy for the little ones, but i wouldn't mind getting a "don't be jack" cta cap for the upcoming summer months. how sweet are they?
