Well now I'm sure that You, Plum Plum Pumskins,
as a man with such keen grasp of the English language(better than Ye Olde Spook),most certainly surely jest?

Because clearly You know the difference between Latin and "Olde English",sir. Just as you know that I’m putting the quotations not for you of course, but to teach others amongst us who don’t know that the proper spelling of Olde is with an "e" at the end for this case.

But let’s return to your original point shall we? (Spook sharpening his knives) Care to restate it?

Plum plum,

You sir, like George Bush said about John McCain "have a heart big enough to love those who hurt" cause your hearts just that big( and perhaps you sound like McCain), So be sure and tell Spav1 when you comfort her at Lake View Links, that we are all in this togther to make me your Spook the Commentator of the month for April. Heck its a more warmer month than March, therefore better for me to wear my T shirt.

Oh and please tell her word for word that Sook said, hey Spav1.... "Thank you for all the support as well as finding me "inspirational"

In spav's defense, she seemed liked she can not only handle a little more than Zima, and wasn't a picky bar snob type girl at all. Every 23 year old fratastic guy with half a brain should totally hit on her.

O.K Fed, that was funny!

Sugar Plum Plum Plum, the "Coalition The Illing"! Exzzelent!

But you have to go buy Spav1 a Zima beer tonight( and maybe a lemon drop shot) at Lake View Links to get her to end her "Boycott", after explaing to her the difference between an embargo and a boycott.

See I bet in college Spav1 was the one who black balled a young Lyons( Margaret) out of the Kappa Gapa Gop Pink Giggle Snort Sorority after she worked to hard as a pledge to get in. Now Ms. Lyons has her revenge!!!

But starting our own blogg would be a counter revolutionary activity, because then we would actually have to do some work as oppossed to just being trolls and heck, people would pointlessly attack us! Oh no!

So, I was working all day and I come home to this...

@A2: Gratz are in order. But I'm calling you out into the ring of honor to face me tomorrow at Sheffield's. I will crush you... crush you like a cloud.

@Spav and Spook: You realize if you get me in this coalition of the illing, they'd probably have to create their own trolls to make things interesting. I'm not suggesting a boycott, something more creative would be funnier. A seperatist blog, perhaps?

@Rachelle: I'm pretty sure the Trivia thing was a positive first step towards a more tangible community. I'm not saying I deserved it (cough, Widdlytinks, cough), but I am saying it'd be nice if someone actually cared. Hell a post the day of would have been nice. I'm not holding my breath.

@Pinko: I like a comment of the week or something too, but a "Dick of the Month"? That's a TERRIBLE idea! Spook THINKS he could step to me for that category, but he underestimates the depths I would stoop to win that award. Finding someone's home address and taking a dump on their front porch? Putting their name on every telemarketers list in the country? Donating money to NAMBLA in their name? The ceiling would have no limit...

and conversations, its just not a Spook's style. Not judging you, although perhaps I should. Any way I'm gonna have a few beers to celebrate( at my favorite downtown dive bar) being able to walk out the office into the sun, like Nina Simone's version of "Here Comes the Sun" done to a house music beat.

I know that you didn't mean "Let's roll up our sleeves" as in fighting. no need to clarify.

Besides as much as I despise Margaret for being the source of all that evil in the world, honestly she'd mop up the floor with a trixie like you. I'd pay to see that!

But again Chicagoist works, we all know it, we all like it. To debate about the rest of the stuff is spliting hairs, except when we talk about the evil done on to Spook by stealing his Chicagoist shirt!

Oh come on Spav1 breath a little bit, your holding spring back! Id rather drink a budlite than defend the evil margaret but come on, do we really need to roll up our sleeves? Do we really?

I stand with Matty on this. Chicagoist works. Yes Margaret is still the root of all evil, but Chicagoist works and its better to have Margaret right where we can keep an eye or her evil ways, as the administrator, editor, Photo Flicker Gal, Leader of the Keep the Spook Down Movement, etc,
than have her preforming her cloak and dagger in the dark!

I think that there are a few things she does to suppress comments and unnecessarily regulate content.

A) Please limit flickr photos to ONE PER DAY. They take up a large amount of room, push down popular posts so they receive fewer page views and are never commented on. They are stupid. If you have to keep them, please make a feature and call it "Photo of the Day".

B) There is no rhyme or reason to WHAT gets posted. Sometimes it has to do with Chicago, sometimes not, if it doesn't then there is some immediate and retarded explanation about why it deserves to be posted. Chicagoist is lacking a THEME, which I am incredulous about considering the name of the site.

C) I have heard, though I can't confirm because I don't write for the site, that Margaret heavily edits posts before they are published. Which turns this blog from a collective into "What Margaret thinks about the goings on in and around Chicago".

D) The new ads which take up a ton of room on the page and can't be commented on.

E) Her retorts to comments in the posts. It is petty. If you have comments, just make edits to your original post.

F) Her refusal to mitigate the obvious political bias of the blog. How about some sort of point/counterpoint?

Man, that is a comprehensive list. We had all better roll up our sleeves.

I think margaret has done a great job with this site. I didn't realize that this thread was a referendum on people's jobs.

That being said I thought "top poster" meant number one in sheer volume. heheh.

Anyway, how about a tee-shirt for funniest post where you can have a direct quote or something?

Also lighten up everyone. good grief!

I think Margaret is a piss poor administrator and My view would not change even if I knew what a Chicagoist administrator is suppose to do, besides
making sure the post are up, comments flow in and out,(keep a Spook Down!) and keep some semblance of order in this cyber zoo, well she does the above, but the cattle prod must go!

Wow, Spav, harsh on Margaret. Her posts are well-written, contain few errors that are corrected promptly when they do occur, and she adds humor to the site. I think she does a pretty damn good job.

What, specifically, besides the internal server errors, are her shortcomings or failures that lead you to believe she is a bad editor or administrator? Your criticisms are not very constructive unless you can tell her why.

Heck NO!

A2 most certainly doesn’t deserve my form fitting
T-shirt and plaque!

She/He is part of this freak'n conspiracy!
This makes Watergate look like a child’s game of
telephone. hummmmm maybe I should get a evil goatee to stroke in a evil way with evil hand!
As not to be out done
Nahh, I’m too vain, as you can see this whole thing is about ME!

But Rubic Cube with only three sides still....
Thank you for all the support as well as finding me "inspirational".

Oh and Bowden, Of course you had to be in this too
to get your revenge against me for making fun of
your boyfriend’s sweater and his name!

Well as Hillary said yesterday "for every one who has stumbled and gotten back up “this one is for me! I am going all the way and I am electable!

matilda, it is kind of a buzz word, but what I'm referring to is the readers an writers having an online Chicagoist community we can come to and all contribute to something fun and interesting and helpful. So, if someone is leaving comments that are fun and interesting and helpful, then it supports that goal.

Serious question: What does "community" mean when it comes to these types of blogs? What type of "community" are you trying to create?

I heard the word community tossed around alot when it comes to describing the new, wonderful word of anonymous online communcation and/or argument, but I really have no idea what the hell it means. I suspect it is merely a buzz word, but I am probably wrong.

Bias: I really have no interest in building virtual communities, as I live in physical ones that are vastly more important to my daily life, but I still wonder.

Thanks for the suggestions. It's not really one comment we can call out to say "this comment deserved an award" but more of just wanting to thank a commenter for consistently making constructive, funny, helpful, or witty comments. Productive comments help us build a community with our readers and for that, we are thankful.

Indianslipper is HILARIOUS.

Also: Chicagoist could take a lot of hints from Gawker, including the creation of profile pages for registered users so that we could comment on friends "walls" so to speak and follow certain members.

This would also make is easier to plan events without mucking up the boards.

I like the ideas of seeing the winning comment in the award post.
For a general idea on this fun addition to the Chicagoist-sphere, I'd like to point out a similar "contest" and how they list the winner(s) each week:

http://gawker.com/tag/the-commies/

And the commentor, Indianslipper, is a Chicagoian...cool!

I am saying, constructively, that she is a bad editor or administrator. Sometimes, when people are forced to wear multiple hats, all their talents suffer. This is especially true when people aren't that talented to begin with, which I suspect is the case here.

But, you know, I could be WAY off.

Spav and Spook you both got snookered! Apparently "top commenter" doesn't mean the top of anything tangible.

What I would love to see accompany the Top Commenter of the Month award is an explanation as to why the editorial staff thought that the commenter deserved the award. A2 obviously participates a great deal on Chicagoist and most of the comments are engaging.

It would seem to me that if there is a small group of people who don't see eye-to-eye with some of the messages here they are going to have a bigger hill to climb if they every expect to win.

Spook and Spav I wish you luck as it's obvious that you're gonna need it.

Thanks for the dig, Rachelle. Noted.

Um, I will make sure to make my comments more "high-brow" from now on.

@Queen Margaret, Editor for All Time:

What makes a favorite? Seriously? Do only you choose (seems to be SOP around here)...is it all the Chicagoist writers that vote? Is it FUNNIEST comment? Based on Snark?

We pick our favorite commenter--it's not based on the number of comments.

Seriously? What are the CRITERIA for this? HUH?! I need to see a bulleted list IMMEDIATELY.

Because I am certainly number 2 AND I was told that I inspire people...

Congrats A2! Keep up the good work!

P.S. If a prereq for this is not critizing Queen Margaret, you can forget about it.
