you're still missing the point though - u of i is the state's flagship university, and with that distinction comes the fact that their improvements should get done before niu's, eiu's, siu's, etc.

why should it rub you the wrong way if u of i deterred niu from opening up an engineering school? how would niu react if uic wanted to open a law school, therefore lowering the desirability/necessity of niu's?

"u of i is the state's flagship state university, deal with it"

NIU has been fighting for 20 years to refurbish Stevens Building..boarded up windows, sewage which backs up, mold damage to walls and ceilings, an old janitors closet which serves as the computer lab, pipes which spray steam...nadda so far from the state. Many other campus buildings are in similar need of repair (same thing is true Im sure at EIU, SIU, etc)

So yea, when I hear a sob story from someone at U of I who has been waiting all of 4 years for funding to spruce up one of their buildings, I dont exactly shed a tear.

Not to mention U of I petitioned the state hard to try and block NIU from opening an engineering school in the 90s, which still really rubs me the wrong way. Needless to say, I'm not a fan of the color orange.

"Cry me a river. Having gone to NIU I know what the "directional" schools get from the state, and its embarrassing. Its the scraps from what dosent get filtered to U of I. I have zero sympathy."

Perhaps I'm mistaken, but weren't there plans to replace this building prior to the incident? My impression was that this process was already in the works, and Blago is just using it to make political hay for himself. Am I misinformed?

Are there members of the press interested in taking our Governor's photo again if he decides to reverse course? That seems to be the only way to get him to do anything these days.

Signed,
A senior at U of I who's been hearing for 4 years that this will finally be the year that the state ponies up the money to renovate the decrepit Lincoln Hall.
