Trader Vic's Is Coming Back to Chicago. Really.

Trader Vic's We've written before about the sad demise of the Chicago Trader Vic's, how it was unceremoniously booted from the Palmer House after the hotel's new owners took over. And we've also sighed about the fact that the reopening of a new Trader Vic's, which was originally supposed to happen in 2006, has still not materialized. Well, we now have some proof that it's finally happening.

We even have the address: just north of Oak at 1030 N. State. Courtesy of Every Block Chicago we know that Trader Vic's has been issued a business license for this location, which used to be the home of the now-shuttered Grotto. A source inside the restaurant design team has made it known that the new TV will be in the basement (all the better to maximize the hideaway factor). We're working on getting further details, but for now all we can do is hope that a revamped tropical escape is indeed finally on the way.

This is excellent news - I went through tiki-cocktail withdrawal!

Yeah! more suburban dining in Chicago! Yea we can use the taxes, but can't we keep them inside a gated zone downtown?

I saw the most obnoxious foursome who washed up on the shores of Lula last Saturday. The whole resturant( and staff) wanted to slit their throats and bury them in the lot next to the Mega Mall, but the ground was too hard.

With that being said any one remember the tiki lounge in Hyde Park? They had the best wings in Chicago!

@Spook: it doesn't make any sense to tag TV as "suburban dining" since the original location had been at the Palmer House since 1957.

O.K rob suburnaites and people from Iowa, Kansas, Ohio, etc staying at the Palmer House as part of the National Washing Machine Vendor's Conference

Spook doesn't understand how awesome the drinks at TJ's are. I mean, they are awesome.

I loved the palmer house one cause it was so dated.

I saw a werewolf drinkin a pina colada at Trader Vic's.......

And his hair was perfect.

Don't worry, given the numerous tax increases there will soon be far less restaurants and conventions to bring out of towners in.

This will be great for all the "local Chicagoans" (i.e., not local and moved from the suburbs) complaining about visitors because they validated their greatness by moving to Wicker Park!

Too bad they didn't get this in over the winter, that joint would have been packed to the roof. I've been jonesin' for some good Polynesian action.

This is great news!

Mai Tai Thursdays are deadly.

why didn't any one tell me that werewolves drank there! Well that's a different story! A wolf a different color so to speak.

If this means I can get a Mai Tai and that drink in a hollowed out pineapple without having to deal with getting out to Hala Kahiki, that's great news. The interim Mai Tais at Harry Caray's just don't match up.

I was lucky enough to get into first class on a vacation to Hawaii a couple of months ago, United mixes MTs from scratch using Vic's recipe. Oh, the joy.

I'll believe it when I see it!
