The "Milk Dud" Four Time Loser

By Prescott Carlson in News on Mar 9, 2008 12:32PM

After an increasingly nasty campaign, science nerd Bill Foster prevailed over perennial candidate Jim Oberweis to win the 14th District congressional seat vacated by Dennis Hastert. The jury is still out as to if Foster won because of his methods to get out the vote, or just because even a lot of Republicans think Oberweis is a douche. But the flurry of mailers featuring cow puns and fear mongering isn't over yet -- thanks to Denny's bad timing of his retirement, Foster and Oberweis will face off yet again in November.

Or will they? As if this whole situation couldn't get any messier, Foster's challenger in the primary, John Laesch, has filed a recount petition citing a number of different voting issues, and has also filed a Freedom of Information request in search of tidbits about "missing election materials, names and background information of employees who handed those items and details about 'failed memory cards' associated with vote tabulations." With Foster only having won the primary by 398 votes, it's not entirely out of the question that Oberweis might be facing a completely different challenger in 8 months. When he'll lose. Again.
