I wouldn't say that one is better than the other, as they have different tastes. Good bourbon is better than bad single malt, and vice versa.

This is why I love Chicagoist because they know the liqour. I'm trying to diversify my drinking, but only with the best. So single malt is better than bourbon right?

No, single-malt Scotch is, but Makers Mark is great.

I thought that bourbon was a poor man's whisky?

I've toured the Maker's Mark distillery before, and it truly is a top notch operation. They are one of the only bourbon distilleries that still rotate barrells from the top of the store house racks to the bottom in order to take advantage of the temp changes, which is the proper way of aging bourbon that has been abandoned due to the labor involved. We were lucky enough to meet the master distiller on a tour, and he clearly knows his shit. Hope people check this guy out.
