Kraft Kills Off Postum, Few Notice

We were sent a link to a Sun-Times story yesterday that made us feel old. Not the story, mind you. We can't tell you the last time we saw a jar of Postum at a grocery store, either. It was probably that raging demand for cereal-based instant coffee substitute that led Kraft to stop producing it during the winter. That it's only being reported now makes us ask the old "if a tree falls in the woods, does it make a sound" question.

What made us feel every bit the grandpa of the staff was the sender's question about the story's subject: "WTF is Postum?" WTF, indeed, Chicagoist Prodigal? It was a staple in our home and we still asked ourselves that very question. It's one of those things - like UHT-treated milk and balut - that we never thought we'd sample in our lifetime.
