Forty days of fish on Friday and pepper and egg sandwiches come to a close this weekend with the celebration of Easter. The celebration of the resurrection of Christ has long been one penciled in by families as both one for gathering and for cooking a fine spread.
Then there are some of us who, following the Christian edict, would prefer to rest and let someone else do the cooking. It's no surprise that restaurants do good business on Easter with brunches and fixed price meals. Following is a list of restaurants offering Easter brunch and dinner specials. All you need to do is dress to impress.
- BIN 36’s Annual Easter Sunday Brunch features a buffet of classic entrées, artisanal cheeses, desserts and beverages for all. Try a flight of mimosas or bloody marys for $12. Cost is $38 adults, $19 for children under 12, and the brunch runs from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
- Heaven on Seven's Easter Brunch runs from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Chef Jimmy Bannos' a la carte menu includes dishes such as bananas foster French toast, poached eggs on crab cakes with creole sauce, and creole eggs benedict. The "New Orleans" bloody mary is not for the squeamish.
- Executive chef Frank Brunacci of Sixteen in the Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago is dipping his feet into the Easter pool with a standard-for-Trump overboard buffet of soups, salads, breakfast items, raw bar, carving stations and desserts. The cost is $110 per adult, $25 children ages 5-10. Sixteen's brunch runs from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
- Gioco in the South Loop is offering a special Easter brunch from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. in addition to their regular brunch offerings. Call 312-939-3870 for more information and reservations.
- Vegetarians rejoice: Green Zebra's Sunday brunch is one of the best in town, and affordable for those who might blink at their dinner prices. Feel your mouth water as you read about such dishes as Baked cheese fondue with Granny Smith apples and sourdough bread; Frisee salad with a poached egg, German style pancake with Fuji apples; Caramelized banana crepes with ricotta and Wisconsin honey; and Challah French toast with black pepper and strawberries. Pair it with one of Tim Lacey's amazing cocktail creations, like the Buck’s Fizz with Blood orange and cava or homemade rhubarb ginger ale. Green Zebra is open for brunch from 10:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.

And then there are some of us who simply enjoy the lighter traffic when all the churchies are huddled in their homes reciting incantations while slicing lambs made from butter.
Best thing about Easter? Day after Easter. Candy = half off.
