Big Brother is already here, Pinko, except we share a large part of the blame. We embraced credit cards and other forms of electronic payments, as well as store loyalty cards, and embraced online shopping as well. Many of us have cell phone conversations in public, and myspace or facebook pages that tell far too much. We've willingly given up so much of our privacy that government and business hardly had to do much. Privacy in its old form is gone forever. This company went bankrupt, but someday you likely will have to give over digital representations of your fingerprints to cross many, if not most, borders. Give it about 20 years. The wheels are already in motion, though the first steps are likely to be in Western Europe, the liberal utopia.

totally, pinko. that seemed so wack for me. how much time was that really saving? it's bad enough they know everything you buy with your jewel card. i liked when they had that movement where everyone mailed in a jewel card and then you got one back, so they could track things, but they weren't really tracking the right things for the right people. so some 42 old black man was getting demographically profiled for buying tampons, cosmopolitan, and light strawberry yogurt. sweet.

You can't pay by touch at Jewel anymore. The company that made those biometric readers went bankrupt. Fine by me. I found the whole thing to be a bit too Big Brother-ish. I'm all for technology making our lives better and more convenient, but fingerprinting me to buy groceries? Fuck that. Anonymity will be as quaint as the phonograph in the not-too-distant future...

That rat stench story made me crack up really loud. That's disgusting, but hilarious in a bad way. Especially after the last post, which made me really sad, the torture one. I hope that someday, even if it's really far away, people learn to be good to each other.
