One Great Sandwich – Smoked Chicken and Apple Club

Sandwich.jpgThe Bongo Room is a perennial favorite for it’s fabulous breakfast dishes like Oreo-Banana Pancakes or Strawberry-Mango French Toast. But, if you’re not in the mood for something tooth-achingly sweet, flip the menu over to their lunch selections and you’ll find one of the best sandwiches in the city.

Available at both the South Loop and Wicker Park locations, the Smoked Chicken and Apple Club is a strange cross between decadent and healthy. For the health nut, it’s filled with tons of green apples and sprouts. For some guiltier pleasures, it’s covered in roasted shallot-butter and layered with bacon and Brie. But it’s served with a salad, so it all balances out in the end. For this filling new twist on the club sandwich, you’ll be set back $9.75, but you’ll almost certainly have leftovers.

The original Bongo Room is in Wicker Park at 1470 N Milwaukee Avenue. The picture was taken at the South Loop location, 1152 S. Wabash. The Bongo Room is only open until 2PM, so head in early. Be ready for a long wait on the weekends.
