Encore: Senator Obama Goes to Africa

Obama in Africa Bob Hercules' documentary Senator Obama Goes to Africa screened in Chicago back in February at the Music Box and, of course, sold out. But if you can get to Skokie the weekend after next you'll have another chance to see what the fuss is about (as if you don't already know). The Skokie Theatre will run the film on Saturday, April 5, at 8 p.m. and again on Sunday at 2 p.m.

So why are we telling you about this now? Because our friends at After Hours Video in Evanston are offering $5 advance tickets. Just call, stop in or drop them an email before Tuesday (or until tickets run out). They've even told us they "can coordinate transportation if someone needs a ride to the theatre." Take that, Netflix!

After Hours Movie Rentals is at 833 Foster in Evanston, right off the purple line Foster stop.

Why do you guys keep promoting this blatant propaganda? I can't remember the last time there were so many post here about a single movie, but I suppose that's what I should expect from
Obama-ist.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

It's a legitimate question asked by E, despite the nonsense disguised as comment offered by Navin. I am all but certain I will vote for Obama should he appear on the fall ballot, but at times, it seems as though this site is part of the Obama campaign--even though I acknowledge his story has many local angles.

That said, how does E know the movie is "blatant propaganda"? I assume E has seen the move, but correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks. I found the post very helpful and can't wait to see this documentary. Keep up the Obama posts, I love them!

Oh is that the same trip where O'bama told a straving village in Kenya,- where residents live on about ten cents a day-, that one United States Senator can't do any thing for them. Yet ten minutes later, he pulls out his check book writes a 5,000 check to Joe Lie-berman, the Slimy senator from Connecticut to show his public support for Lie-berman's then crashing relection campaign?

Oh Navin, next time you come in a room, please close the door,a nasty roach scampered in right behind you!

Happy Friday bro!

Readers should be aware that Chicagoist is the only "-ist" site in the country that engages in this kind of political chearleading.

'Tilda,
At the risk of hurting the fragile sensibilities of some users who aren't being forced to read this *blog* or even this entry, I think Chicagoist should go ahead and post info like this for its readers that may be interested in catching this film, like Pafo up there for example.

And I almost forgot: Get off my tip.

Navin: An actual thought. Was that so hard, Navin.

What the hell is a "tip"? And how did I get on it in the first place.

We're all missing the bigger picture here...

Some guy is named "Bob Hercules". Wow. He sounds like he's a secret agent who's assigned to help out the Six Million Dollar Man complete missions and stuff.

Have you considered writing a dissenting piece for balance, and submitting it to Chicagoist?

"That said, how does E know the movie is "blatant propaganda"?

Given that it covers somebody currently on the campaign trail, that seems like a fair bet.

I am the filmmaker who made the Obama film and it was never conceived as a propaganda piece. It is simply a chronicle of Obama's momentous trip to Africa in 2006. When we made the film there was no 'campaign.' I would hope people would actually watch the film before making generalized statements. I've been making independent films for 25 years and we self-funded the film.

"Given that it covers somebody currently on the campaign trail, that seems like a fair bet."

Perhaps, but intelligent people, while fiercely skeptical, rarely make such assumptions without actually seeing the work. Have you seen the work? I have not, and therefore I refrain from judging it.
