HS Basketball Coach Accused of Sexually Abusing 15-Year-Olds

2008_3_28.paytoncoachGeorge Turner was held in lieu of $275,000 bond yesterday after being charged with the sexual assault of one teenage girl and the sexual abuse of another. Turner was until Feb 29 the boys varsity basketball coach at Walter Payton College Prep.

According to Assistant State's Attorney Kathleen Muldoon, Turner began assaulting his first victim at the end of December in the school's athletic director's office. The victim says that on other occasions, he assaulted her in his car.

On Feb. 7, Turner drove the girl to an "adult sex store," where he purchased two vibrators and a "pair of shorts," Muldoon said. He then drove the girl to the lakefront, told her to take off her clothes and put on the shorts. He later gave the girl the recently purchased items to keep, Muldoon said.

"The vibrator and shorts have been recovered from victim No. 1."

Turner is also accused of fondling a second 15-year-old on February 28. That victim told the first victim, and the two reported the incidents together. [S-T, Trib, STNG]

this guy's got a 15 year old of his own. what a creep

is that a real photo of the guy or a photo of the guy from when he went as a child molester for Halloween a few years ago?

Not only that but according to the news reports he lives just a few houses from the HC Andersen Community Academy in the East Ukrainian Village.

Definitely a sketchy dude, assuming the allegations are true.

really, you shouldn't comment on things like this until you hear the result. Just so happens that he was once MY basketball coach, and my family has been friends with him for over 10 years now. Nothing ever even KIND OF close to this occurred. He's a nice guy, with a nice family, who does a lot for his community. Not saying I'm sure it's not true, or that I'm sure it is. Simply saying that these stories are NOT one sided.
And give up on talking about his picture. He wears glasses, so what? Not like a mug shot is supposed to be a nice, flattering picture.

i was witness to an similar incident when i was in hs (by the bball coach) and was also close friends with a girl who's dad (bball coach) was accused of same act. i also worked with a man (also a bball coach) that was accused & then acquitted of similar charges.

all men were nice guys with nice families.

I'm gonna start hearing the voice of the Sheriff
from "No Country for Old Men" cause I just don't understand

As a fellow male teacher of adolescents who has seen this episode play out to be false in other instances (Jim Connelly at St. Ignatius two years ago), I try best to follow one simple rule:

NEVER be in a situation where you are alone with a student. You may only know their motives 99.9999% of the time, which is in no way good enough. Ss should travel in pairs and make visits to teachers/coaches in pairs. No car rides, no off site meetings, NOTHING. Your career and reputation are not worth it. A disgruntled parent or administration need only plant a seed of doubt, and if you have no witnesses, where does that leave you?

The question is whether the two alleged victims resemble the alleged pedophile's own daughter?

I interview high school who have applied to the university I graduated from. I set them up like a regular meeting in the conference room with the door open at all times, and never after 5:00pmm on weekdays only. Don't get me wrong as I think in 99% of the time the child is right, but yest you have to protect yourself because of the numerous sick child molestors.

"NEVER be in a situation where you are alone with a student."

Good advice when dealing with undergrads, as well, not just adolescents.

You can add graduate students and postdocs to that list too :-)
