Good advice when dealing with undergrads, as well, not just adolescents.
You can add graduate students and postdocs to that list too :-)

I interview high school who have applied to the university I graduated from. I set them up like a regular meeting in the conference room with the door open at all times, and never after 5:00pmm on weekdays only. Don't get me wrong as I think in 99% of the time the child is right, but yest you have to protect yourself because of the numerous sick child molestors.

The question is whether the two alleged victims resemble the alleged pedophile's own daughter?

As a fellow male teacher of adolescents who has seen this episode play out to be false in other instances (Jim Connelly at St. Ignatius two years ago), I try best to follow one simple rule:

NEVER be in a situation where you are alone with a student. You may only know their motives 99.9999% of the time, which is in no way good enough. Ss should travel in pairs and make visits to teachers/coaches in pairs. No car rides, no off site meetings, NOTHING. Your career and reputation are not worth it. A disgruntled parent or administration need only plant a seed of doubt, and if you have no witnesses, where does that leave you?

i was witness to an similar incident when i was in hs (by the bball coach) and was also close friends with a girl who's dad (bball coach) was accused of same act. i also worked with a man (also a bball coach) that was accused & then acquitted of similar charges.

all men were nice guys with nice families.

really, you shouldn't comment on things like this until you hear the result. Just so happens that he was once MY basketball coach, and my family has been friends with him for over 10 years now. Nothing ever even KIND OF close to this occurred. He's a nice guy, with a nice family, who does a lot for his community. Not saying I'm sure it's not true, or that I'm sure it is. Simply saying that these stories are NOT one sided.
And give up on talking about his picture. He wears glasses, so what? Not like a mug shot is supposed to be a nice, flattering picture.

this guy's got a 15 year old of his own. what a creep
Not only that but according to the news reports he lives just a few houses from the HC Andersen Community Academy in the East Ukrainian Village.

Definitely a sketchy dude, assuming the allegations are true.
