Pitchfork Expands Fest Line-up

2008_03_pitchfork.jpgPitchfork announced another batch of acts appearing at its festival in Union Park this summer from July 18 - 20. The biggest hoopla surrounds the news that Mission Of Burma will be performing it's legendary Vs. album in it's entirety on Friday's bill. Other big names include Dinosaur Jr, Jarvis Cocker, and the team-up of Ghostface & Raekwon.

Other support includes groups as varied in style as the shiny popsters Apples In Stereo, to the brutal Jay Reatard. It was also announced today that the fest is teaming up with Seattle's KEXP, broadcasting in-the-studio performances before the fest, and broadcasting some of the acts live from union Park during the fest.

A full list of performers announced so far after the jump, and we have to say that this line-up is shaping up very nicely. Getcher tickets now.

Yay!
I got my ticket long ago to see P.E. on Friday night and was wondering who else would be on for the evening. Mission of Burma's a pleasant surprise.

Chicagoist commenter party at the Cevapici tent!

Saturday isn't much to my liking, but I am sure others are excited about some of the bands.
I am more than psyched to see Boris and Spiritualized on Sunday!!

hey now ... don't go advertising that Holy Fuck is there when it's actually the Fuck Buttons - which are great, by the by.

Cut Copy - best addition yet. that better be a nighttime show.

So excited about this second batch of announcements. I was a tiny bit dissapointed after the first announcement since I wasnt pumped about ALL the bands, but I agree with tankboy, things ARE shaping up nicely :)

Commenter party? Yes.

Who the hell is Jay Reatard? I keep seeing his name everywhere, a name which I find really irritating. Is it his real name or just a juvenile attempt at humor?

Nice lineup.

Am I the only one who just doesn't care about Vampire Weekend? I don't get what's so great about them.

!!! used to say it was "bang bang bang" as well as "chk chk chk", but I think tyheres actually a band called Bang Bang Bang now.

I'd really like to see Holy Fuck added to this. I was really dissapointed to hear they're opening for M.I.A. becuase she's horrible live.

@mike: Jay Reatard used to be in two amazing garage bands - first the Reatards then the Lost Sounds. The former was his first band to get a wide audience, and the latter being a more experimental goth-style band w/ alicja trout, which i personally think was his best band. now he's gotten a new audience with the matador release of his "solo" album, which i've yet to hear but i'm sure is righteously good.

his (and the band's) name fits into the whole goner/inthered garage scene carried over from the ripoff/estrus/sympathy scene before them (and on and on). it's all juvenile garage humor which never gets old (as in age). they mix 50 year olds with 20 year olds all the time, so long as they like the same stuff. so names like his pop up all over the place. the whole point is to not take it so seriously (if that's what you find irritating)..

DJ and Spiritualized the same night.... f'in a man.

meh. exceptin' DJr. and PE. and m ward. and okay, animal collective...wait, twice?

also, is this another j. mascis/lou barlow reunion? or am i showing up to see one or the other? (yes, i have been asleep at the wheel. i also turned thirty, so don't answer this question like a condescending ass, tankboy. you know you want to.)

lastly, i can't wait for the yearly irony fashion show. seriously. i take great pleasure in watching people try too hard on a sweltering august day.

Apparently, I'm the only one super excited about Dizzee Rascal...

I think !!! is actually 3 repetitive sounds sounds pronounced together, or I believe that's how it was defined. . .so most commonly, people say "Chk Chk Chk" or "Bang Bang Bang" but I think "Honk Honk Honk" works too.

I think it was meant to be an alliterative-type thing.

Looks pretty sweet so far. I'd like to see Baroness or Isis added to that list in the tradition of having one "art metal" band play on the fest like they did with Pelican and Mastodon in years past. Both Isis and Baroness released very solid records in the past year and a half or so. Boris is great, but I think adding a band like Baroness would just make it that much sweeter.
