Tighter gun control?
It is currently against the law to even own a handgun in the City of Chicago. It has been for the past 25 years.
It is a FELONY to carry a concealed weapon.
It's a more serious CLASS X FELONY to use such weapon in the course of a crime.
Perhaps Fr. Mike, Messrs Duncan, Jackson et al would be better served to direct their efforts toward the Circuit Court JUDGES who are apparently oblivious to the law.
It is doubtful the Mayor will EVER publicly read the NAMES of those arrested for illegal firearm possession--along with the sentences meted out by an obviously ineffective court system.
i don't think most people have a problem with law abiding citizens having guns. people have a problem with them being so easy to get, for anyone (felon or not). if a high school kid can easily buy a gun on the street for $20, which is what apparently happened in this simeon case, something is seriously wrong. allowing people to own handguns or carry concealed weapons would not prevent gang bangers from getting guns, it would only put more guns on the street. i do agree law enforcement and judges need to crack down much harder on the illegal gun trade. that seems to be the main problem
It sure is funny to see these soft-on-crime Dems giving speeches in which they blame Republicans for not making stricter gun laws.
Who slates the judges who give the gangbangers slaps on the wrist for gun violations? Who is handcuffing our police by making it career suicide for them to do their jobs aggressively? Answers? The same Democrats and their supporters that are now yelling like Jimmy Swaggart. All they need are some Swaggart-style fake tears.
Why werent these kids in school? Its the middle of the day on monday the kids should be in school . Maybe this is why CPS students only have a 51% chance of graduating H.S. God damn schools.
Protesting to profesionals downtown about gang violence; your not going to get many people disagreeing with you.
However if they took the protest to the gang riddled streets, maybe the actual gangbangers will see it.
They also need to change the target of the protest; the problem is not gun's it's the gangs, poverty, inept parents of the neighborhoods than anything else. It's the opportunistic snake like Pflegler (or whatever his name is) who needs to understand he is not, was never, and will never be, an influential person. He is much worse than Jesse Jackson with the news cameras.
I was kind of wondering what these kids were protesting for in the first place. Um, just stop shooting each other... you have to do it yourselves, we cant do it for you.
ahhhh...the douchebag circus is out in force on chicagoist today.
congratulations on achieving distinctions of high-douche-baggery, ward up, fed up, and mepps.
"douche-baggery"
Really? Is that the level we are on here?
Well then...your just...a big fat jerk...so there! Ha!
