Oprah: Pregnant Man, Puppy Mills...
Seek and ye shall receive, billboard peeps? Oprah is indeed doing a puppy mill exposé episode on Friday. She's dispatched The View survivor Lisa Ling to investigate animal abuse in puppy mills, though the episode is officially tied to the death of Oprah's dog and not to the billboard that's been up for months asking her to address the issue. We're still waiting to hear back from spokesfolk at Harpo about any connection to the sign.
Update A rep for Harpo says yes, the billboard is part of the show. Bill Smith from Mainline Animal Rescue, the organization that put up the sign, will be on the show.

I wish that story in the Advocate would've been written by someone else documenting it that was further removed, but it was really interesting.
By, i totally agree. i read that article last week and wished a real journalist could have gotten the perspective of the doctors and family members. i'm sure the couple faced difficulties, but they portray themselves as victims and didn't get past the surface on the subject.
this is certainty an interesting issue, but if Oprah likes it then it MUST be good.
i sort of heard about that, but never really investigated it. that is bizarre and awesome. i'm an office manager for midwives and let me tell you ... i have no intention of having kids. i'm 34, and have known this since i was 12. but, it's been really great to see all sort of women and their partners (married, unmarried, gay, straight), going through the process of pregnancy and their decisions and outcomes along the way.
many of the women come to us because we provide home birth and they had a horrible experience the first time, or they have always had home births and want to continue the great experience they have always known. but there is a growing movement of people who are educating themselves and finding that they want to be more in control of the whole process and that they want their needs/concerns taken seriously and that they want to feel that they are in control of their own pregnancy. it's really great to be a part of something that empowers and enlightens women and their partners.

If it wasnt so whiny I might have mistaken it for an actual article! s/he sounded so shocked that the community doesnt handle a transgender-pregnant-man so well.

Are we on the verge of "bi-gendered" people shouting for their rights and relating stories of their senseless oppression? I mean, I'm fine with the idea of being transgendered. I'm completely supportive of the gay community and the push for same sex marriage. I'm fine with gay couples having children. But none of that carries me across the logical gap that this person thinks people should hurdle with ease. If you identify as a man, then you behave as a man. While there is a wide spectrum of "male" behavior that one can emulate or not, there is one characteristic that would seem to exclude one from being labeled male. Men do not get pregnant. How can you claim that you are intrinsically male, and then justify getting pregnant and carrying a child? It is, forgive the pun, inconceivable.
