Lollapalooza Headliners Announced, Awesomeness Abounds

2008_04_lolla_logo.gifDeRo has the lowdown on a bunch of other confirmed Lollapalooza acts. We already knew Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, and Rage Against The machine would be headlining, but now you can add Racontuers, Kanye West, and Wilco to that list. We'd bitch about the fact that three of the six headliners have already played Lolla, which in its current incarnation is still a neophyte, but fuck it, we love all the headliners so we'll keep our trap shut.

Local cool kids OFFICE will also be making a return appearance, although this time around they probably won't be performing at 11 a.m. Other acts announced that were excited about are: Gnarls Barkley, the Black Keys, Broken Social Scene, Mates of State, Stephen Malkmus (fuck yeah!), Girl Talk (double fuck yeah!), Kid Sister, Cool Kids, and Battles. Other newly announced acts we're less excited about are after the jump. Getcher tickets now before they make another jump upwards in price.

UPDATE: It should be noted that the Lolla folks are not saying these acts are confirmed, but we're hoping DeRo's source is on the ball!

These aren't all bad, but we'll probably skip 'em: G. Love & Special Sauce, Blues Traveler, Bloc Party, Cat Power, Go! Team, Jamie Lidell and Grizzly Bear.

I'm not sure how I feel about the new Gnarls album. Is it wrong of me to want the explosive pop-piness of St. Elsewhere?

Also I refuse to see Jamie Lidell ever again after having seen him at the MCA where it seemed like the all-in-black, painfully-hip crowd refused to jive with his fun set. That's probably why he pulled my friends and I up from the front row and had us sing and dance with him. My heart is still skipping.

i'll bitch about it. they keep upping those ticket prices ... so i'd like to see new headliners. wilco? YAAAAWWWWWNNNNN. it's chicago, i'm ovvvvvaaaahhh it.

i'm really into seeing broken social scene again .. that was a new deal i hadn't really known about before lolla. speaking of which, if you're going to bring people back, how about lcd soundsystem? that was fucking great.

I'm just putting everyone on notice: when Radiohead plays, I am down front, front row, half way between Thom and Jonny. Always. Do NOT try and stop me. I am old and have lived through waaaay too many Ministry mosh pits in pool thongs to put up with any shit, least of all from waify, eyeliner-ed shims, trying to body block me.

I'm coming up front. Period. So if you find yourself in my way, move.

I guess the Miley Cyrus rumors weren't true...dammit!

Peteypants - HA! Thanks for that. :)

Pool thongs? I'm getting a mental picture of Borat at the beach in his green "pool thong."

Must be a bitch to mosh in that. Whatever turns you on!

uhmm, sandals? you've heard of those, right?

i got a shiny nickel for anyone that shows up to lolla in a thong-thong. i'm talking to you, plum. ;)

I saw someone at Bonnaroo 4 years ago or so in a thong. It was priceless.

I really hope they doing something about the sound bleed off the stages this year. That and the non-performance agreement for 90 days acts have to sign, creating a deadzone for alot of bands. And Perry Ferrell's bullshit.

Yeah, I'll just hit pitchfork and save the bother.

If they confirm Sisqo, I'll totally wear a thong.

I think Rage puts it over the top for me, they haven't really played here since reforming, aside from a show at Alpine Valley, so I may just have to go for that, but man, it seems like the talent pool is getting a little thin. I like a lot of these bands, but not only have I seen them, I've seen them in festival settings before. I want to see Bloc Party go for the sweep and play every different Chicago festival imaginable.
