I first read the "Drink Schlitz or I'll Kill You" description of these ads in a piece by Gary Deeb, a Tribune TV columnist whose space was the rough equivalent of this blog in the '70s. BTW, these weren't the worst spots in this ad campaign - I nominate the party in which the ringleader threatens to kill the off-camera guy while the others laugh.

So they're bringing back the original recipe from the 1960s...a recipe that the people who now drink Schlitz (20-30something hipsters) weren't even alive to sample? Excellent.

Sure, it could be that they messed with the formula, changing it from watered down piss to watered down piss with a hint of asparagus... And yet people still drink Bud Light... Give me a Schlitz over that personality-deficient brew any day.

It's not Phil Rosenthal that gave these & several other Schlitz ads the "Drink Schlitz or I'll Kill You" tag. They got that name immediately way back then when they first were shown on TV! Everyone called them that. That is just one of several in a series of "Drink Schlitz or I'll Kill You" ads that Terri Garr did.
