TGIF, Comedy Edition

2008_4_18.submarine.jpgTeam Submarine's official farewell show is tonight at the Playground theater at 10pm ($10). TS performs some of the most reliable sets in town, so we're really going to miss them. Tonight's show is your last chance to see Nate and Steve's absurdist stylings in Chicago.

Except for tomorrow, when they throw down in Schadenfreude's Rent Party Tour. Saturday's show at Gallery Cabaret, one of our favorite cozy venues, includes Team Submarine, hilarious musical duo Mike and Duane (funnier than it sounds), Jimmy Carrane, 80s Clown, and the much-beloved titular apes of Impress These Apes. The show starts at 9pm ($10).

If you like your comedy less scripted and more competitive, Saturday's grand finale of Improv Gladiators may be more up your alley. Four teams of improvisers have battled it out over the last few weeks in both long-form pieces and short-form games in the hopes of winning a four-week run at the Cornservatory. The show starts at 10:30 ($10), and the theater is BYOB.

What kind of improv comedy group moves from Chicago to fucking Orlando for better opportunities? Did I miss something?

It's a joke. They're going to New York.

Orlando is the new Albuquerque in comedic town punchlines.
