According to Crain's Chicago Business, three doctors are suing Cook County for employment discrimination.
Three doctors who were laid off amid widespread layoffs at Cook County’s health system last year are suing the county, claiming officials ignored their seniority in making the job cuts.
The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in federal court in Chicago, also claims the county “has a longstanding practice of underpaying and overworking black and female physicians.” Two of the plaintiffs, orthopedic surgeon Vietta L. Johnson and oral surgeon Karen Nash, also are suing the Cook County Bureau of Health Services for sex and race discrimination.

Dr. Johnson and orthopedic surgeon Daniel Ivankovich also claim that the county targeted them for layoffs in retaliation for their support of an earlier union-organizing drive at Provident. The three physicians are seeking back pay and an unspecified amount in damages. The county had no comment.

Stroger Makes Hollywood Play

Why do DOCTORS need unions? Jesus, what whiners.
Spav, you are correct. Those doctors who want to form unions ARE whiners.
Note, however, that most doctors, even those employed by the county, have no interest in forming unions.
Sue them for everything they have. Todd Stroger is a criminal for firing doctors and hiring his family members.
Read it again. It doesn't say that the doctors were FORMING a union. It says they were supporting a union-organizing drive at Provident Hospital. There are plenty of hosptial employees who aren't doctors, and who would benefit greatly from being unionized.
Nurses and service workers deserve unions. Doctors don't. Get a new job. Stop wasting my time, DOCTORS. I hate doctors, almost as much as I hate the police.
Repeat ophmarketing...."Read it again."
Let's see Spav, you hate doctors. That is lefty-style class envy that is typical among commenters on Chicagoist.
You also hate cops. Doctors and cops. I don't even need to think of anything to type in order to show how dumb that is.
@Ward up:
I don't understand why you have to be a Conservative to believe in like rugges individualism. I don't think I need Doctors or the Police. Me as an individual. I understand their, like, value to society. But I could certainly do without both; they normally do me more harm than good.
Spav, I agree with you. Not too many people have the guts to say things like that, but I've got to say that I know of SO many...TOO many, for sure, cases where doctors have totally screwed up peoples' lives.
It didn't have to be that way, but their ginormous egos get in the way and there you go.
My dad is in a nursing home now, and my mom has an impossible time trying to reach his doctors. They get to the nursing home, on their assigned days at the frikking crack ass of dawn and they do their rounds in like 20 minutes...so...yah...try and get there so you can actually talk to one in person.
This is just ONE current example of how fucked up the system is and how fucked up the doctors are. If you can't get your own doctor to care about his patients...who are you going to get?
And the whole reason he is in the stupid nursing home to begin with is because of a botched surgery years ago that left him practically unable to move and he just kept getting worse by the week after that.
Pretty amazing...you are able to move before the surgery and unable to move and in pain 24/7 AFTER the surgery.
Doctors...yep...I agree with you Spav.
(I could go on with many more examples, but like I said..this is one that I'm dealing with currently).
