The CTA is yanking ads for the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto 4 after Fox Chicago made a stink about it. It's almost as if this has all happened before. Wait a second...it totally did in 2004.
The CTA says ads only need to meet decency requirements, but Ron Huberman apparently agreed to pull the GTA spots. The most recent studies show no causal relationship between violent video games and real-world violence, and we thought the CTA wasn't allowed to pick and choose its advertisers, but high fives to everyone for wasting time, money and effort. [Game Politics. Thanks, Lou!]

I was in NYC this weekend and it was plastered everywhere. IF NYC doesn't care why the heck does Chicago?
Fix the trains damnit.
I love when the media, or politicians, attack videogames and music for leading to the downfall of society. It's just so much easier to take down some billboards and edit some rap music and then you feel good about yourself and look better to your viewers/constituents.
Got mine pre-ordered.
I'll be stealing cars in virtual space, ads or not.
Where's Tipper Gore on this one?
But what about the Children!
I am going to go with video games liek this (like Horror Movies) actually decrease crime by keeping the most likely demographic to commit crimes (young males) off the streets and in their parent's basements.
CTA is retareded.
lame. why don't they make a stink about R-rated films being advertised as well. either way, i've seen plenty of ads for the game on billboards/building walls while riding the CTA, so i guess it balances out.
You people are all just shills for the videogame industry. How else would you explain my increase in Pac-Man play coinciding with a crippling addiction to pills?
Well, UTV, at least you're getting some fruit in your diet too, one hopes.
This reminds me to place my pre-order for my copy as well as another for a present. Thanks FOX.
Speaking of tasteless ads, has anyone seen those oh-so-classy mobile billboard ads for "The Admiral Theatre: The hottest buns in town!" depicting the blown-up image of a topless dancer with only a strategically-placed cinnamon bun covering each breast?
That was fun explaining to my girlfriend's seven-year-old daughter as we dined on the second level of the Rock 'n' Roll McDonald's on a recent Sunday afternoon. Even cooler was the fact that the truck circled the block repeatedly, allowing all the children in the restaurant to enjoy it several times...
I'm totally ready for GTA also! Yeaaaaaaaaah!
Nice one, shameshameboy.
Well of course you are Meteorologist. You're asian and the asians just love their video games.
@simplecreature
*grimace*
Eeeee! I hope you and Meteorologist are friends or something because that was one harsh comment there.
eeeesch!
What's he gonna do? Use his kung-fu on me?
Wash my shirts and makee quickee with the rice.
Whatever. Real classy, buddy. I'm sure your parents are really proud of you.
Sadly, they're dead. So no report on their pride or lack thereof.
Well, at least parents never owned a grocery shop, working their little yellow fingers to the bone day and night and shouting sing-song "ching-chong-chung" at the top of their lungs while lighting incense to a waving hello kitty/buddha.
wow. could things at chicagoist get a little more racist? Maybe you should change your avatar to a guy wearing a sheet there simplecreature.
Or change your login to racisthatemongeringasshole
Hadn't seen the ads. . on my greenline, the CTA feels its worth the money to advertise for the CTA ON the CTA. . .seems no one thought this through. . if I'm already riding the CTA, no need to CONVINCE me to ride the CTA.
