Only the New York/San Francisco Giants have previously reached the 10k win mark. And amazingly, the Cubs even have an overall winning record! The team currently stands at 10,000-9,465 -- a .513 winning percentage. We were certain that when we heard they'd won 10k, that they'd surely lost at least 12k. Our bad! The White Sox currently have 8383-8191 franchise record since 1901 (.506).
The Cubs' pace of winning has certainly slowed in recent decades, though. The Cubs won their first game on April 25, 1876, and reached 5,000 on July 19, 1940. That means it took the Cubs 64 years to reach 5,000 wins, and another 68 to win the next five grand -- in spite of longer 162-game seasons since 1961.
Of course, all the wins in the world don't mean much to Cubs fans who only want to see a World Series title within their lifetime -- the only fans who can currently claim that sport triple-digit ages.

There are simply too many jokes to be had here.
I'm new here. I will practice restraint.
Why do you have the Sox record since 1904? They've been around since 1900. The American League became an official league in 1901.
Thanks, moldyorange -- was a typo on the numbers keypad.
Watching the Cubs come back last night in the final innings against the defending NL champion Rockies not once, but twice, it started occurring to me that we really might be in for one helluva special season...
There, I just jinxed us.
Thanks you pinko, commie bastard
Kids eat for free at Ponderosa!
Just an FYI.
Cubs World Series 2008!
(There, now you're jinxed)
Sox Fan -------------------------------------->
How can Sox fans still even really care about the Cubs or their fans? I don't understand it...you won the friggin' World Series, before the Cubs did. You'd think that would be enough to move on. And yet...
@mike_thoms:
NEVER!!!!
no mike thoms.
it is very important for all non-cub fan sports fans to see the cubs hit the century mark.
What we need is for Lee Elia to come in here and crack some skulls...
He he,
The man who called Wrigley "A playground for the cocksuckers".
why is it important for all non-cub fans to see that? Also I dont' really think it's like that. I think maybe it's like that for Sox fans and Cardinals fans but are you saying that a Detroit Lions fan cares what the Cubs are doing? Or a Detroit Tigers fan for that matter? Or are you just talking about non-cub sports fans in Chicago, which would then be Sox fans.
