Win Tickets to See The Teenagers

2008_04_teenagers.jpg

The Teenagers have been steadily conquering the '80s-fixated dance rock crowd, first coming to our attention via remix efforts, notably the Yuksek "Homecoming remix and the "Fuck Nicole" SLUTTT Ketateen remix. While both those songs prepared us for the notion that The Teenagers had a wicked sense of humor based on dueling worldviews and less than rosy views on love, we weren't prepared for the simplicity, and directness, of the group's material sans remixers.

The just released "Reality Check" is filled stabbing guitars, slightly singing, a drum machine that sounds two steps overdue its expiration date, and the whole thing is sweetly entrancing and winsomely melodic. Granted, there seem to be an awful lot of discs looking bacwards to the days of colored neon and herky-jerky dancing in smoke-filled clubs, but The teenagers opt for a darker "120 Minutes" vibe to fill the floor, and avoid any notion of playful disco beats or snap-pop bass lines.

The Teenagers play The Abbey on April 29, and we have two tickets for one lucky Chicagoist reader. Enter for your chance to win after the jump.

I can't bring myself to apply for tickets. Why, you ask?

Because the dude in the middle looks almost exactly like a young version of my father. That is just too weird for me.

Also that "Starlett Johansson" song cracks me up. Seeing somebody that looks like my father singing about her...well. Ugh.

Wait, how could you not want to see that?!

Hahaha. Touche, Tankboy. Ok, I will apply.

The guy on the left will buy you Mike's Hard Lemonade if you just hop in is van for a little bit.
