This isnt even about the museum anymore this is about king Daley showing that little upstart alderman Reilly who runs the city. If Daley doesnt crush this dissent someone might grow the balls to question his budget or his handling of city contracts. To bad Reilly daley is going to disembowel you just to keep the rest of the dweebs in the city council in line.

"False..theres still essentially a massive PIT (probably around 30 or 40 feet deep) that the renderings dont show (or merely cleverly disguise). aks yourself why the CM is totally unwilling to release hi-res 3D renderings of what this will actually look like when its done. And no, conceptual abstract blueprints from a perspective of several blocks away dont count..."

This is a very good point. They keep issuing these flat elevations that don't convey to the average person a realistic sense of place that 3D renderings from various points of view would. They should be able to produce at least rough renderings from the same CAD plans they pull the elevations from. The fact that they don't really shows how far the advocates for this project will go to obscure the true impact this project will have on Grant Park.

For my part I'm with those who question why you'd want to bury a museum, in particular children's museum, underground. At the very least, from a functional perspective this "solution" would seem to severely limit the kind of exhibits the museum can build and how it can interact with the space that surrounds it.

"So basically this plan replaces an underground parking garage with a museum, and leaves the park on top? Sounds pretty inoffensive to me..."

Why didn't they go all out and incorporate stalactites and stalagmites into the design?

The redesign STILL doesn't address the fact that many other neighborhoods would greatly benefit from having the museum.

I can't make any sense of placing it in an already saturated area that will be costly and troublesome to get to.

Seriously! Why do we want to put the children underground? Won't someone THINK OF THE CHILDREN?!

Or, seriously, won't someone think of how long the park is going to be under construction, or how taking away this parking is going to affect the CSO, whose audience regularly parks in those 400 spaces, or of the kind of insane maintenance an underground building is going to need, not to mention how destructive to the park any expansion would be, or what they'd do with this building once the CCM wants to move again? This is SUCH a terrible idea for so many reasons. And I have yet to hear a single good reason for it to be here.

So they're just shoving the thing underground?

Why not just put it somewhere else?
