How Moo-gical!
Terri Bollinger, the principal at Ridge Central Elementary School in Chicago Ridge, promised back in October that she would kiss a cow if her students read over 10,000 books by the end of the school year. Naturally, then, her students managed to tally a total of 11,014 books read, and she found herself actually kissing a cow yesterday afternoon. The cow, named Stella, is owned by Bollinger’s cousin.
Huh. We have two distinct memories from our childhood similar to this. Book It! (naturally) and when our fifth grade teacher added a construction paper ice cream scoop to your cone on the bulletin board if you got a 100% on a spelling quiz. That was freaking awesome.

i feel more sorry for the cow.
I used to win free personal pan pizzas from Pizza Hut through Book It! I LOVED it.
Oh man, Ali, I used to win those too. I totally forgot about that!
MOO
Nothing gets kids more motivated than having your principal be willfully humiliated. Kudos to the principal for promoting literacy!
...Sorta.
Yeah, I was going to mention, Book It was all about the free pizza. . .I read a lot of Encylopedia Browns for that free pizza. . .
Also, book it encouraged the slow reader, it was always about time spent reading, not books read.
