One More Bottle of Wine: Some Young Punks 2006 Drink 'n Stick

2008_05_drinknstick.jpg

Along with a few hundred others, we also froze our teats off Friday night viewing Don Giovanni at Millennium Park. The overall inclement weather made us drink our wine with an urgency in an ill-advised effort to keep warm.

But what a wine it was.

Hailing from Australia are three young winemakers that call their product "Wine by Some Young Punks." Looking to pair some duck salami from Pastoral, we opted for a bottle of their "Drink 'n Stitch," a blend of sixty percent Mataró, forty percent Shiraz. If the term Mataró sounds unfamiliar, that's because the grape is more commonly known as mourvèdre. So what we got with this wine was a lot of tannins and alcohol heat from the mataró, which mixed with the spices and chewy texture of the shiraz. They may call themselves punks, but there's some serious thought going on behind their winemaking.

Further making this wine enjoyable was the label, which comes with adhesive clothing to dress the pin-up gracing it. It made for a lively cab ride home, peeling off clothing to stick to the bottle while taking the occasional swig.

Hi Chuck--
Where can we purchase this wine?

Pastoral, for great justice! I've yet to find a bad bottle of wine at that joint.

Thanks, pratfall, for saying what I wanted to had I not bitten my tongue and crushed my fingers.

Anyhoo, Pastoral sells this for around $23 a bottle. I highly recommend drinking it with some of their duck salami.
