thank god! what a dumbass!
Do you think this is ploy in order to keep the protesters away?
Crisis averted for now...but doesn't it always seem like the City Council gets it's way somehow? Call your aldermen and sign the petition. This certainly isn't over.
Seriously, these Alderman are out of their minds. I understand they are legislators but pahlease, legislate, don't dictate. bunch of assholes.
but doesn't it always seem like the City Council gets it's way somehow?
Yes, much like with the smoking ordinance (which was popular around these parts), you just bring up the bill over and over until people/lobbyists just assume that it's inevitable.
Stay vigilant!
Independent promotion is safe in Chicago for now, and I think it's entirely due to the strong and immediate response from the music community.
Thank you to everyone who made their voice heard ... but let's not let this one slip into the background unnoticed again. I've been told this is 100% sure to still come to a vote -- possibly within the next month -- so you need to keep the pressure up on your alderman!
They will pass this ordinance in some form or another, so it's up to the community to do what we can to shape it.
I agree with Sparky that this issue may not be dead.
It is not possible to underestimate the intelligence of these Aldermen.
Is there anything up online that confirms this yet? I just sent a mass email encouraging everyone to write to their alderman, and i'd like to send some follow up info.
thanks for keeping us posted.

Please still spread the word that this isn't over. This could go to vote next month.
Roger that Sparky. Thanks for the link.
Good work so far everyone. Keep it up!
Oooh. Ben Joravsky just called you niave, Margaret.
