Extra, Extra

The three-judge appellate court unanimously ruled today that the city of Chicago cannot be held liable in the E2 nightmare that killed 21 people. A lawyer for the victims' families say they're going to appeal. [Trib]

The Plan Commission approved the Children's Museum's proposal yesterday, 13-2. [Trib]
Yesterday, the Illinois house passed a bill, 109-1, that would "ban state officeholders from having their names appear on tax-subsidized billboards and electronic signs promoting government programs." Rod Blagojevich is shedding one lonely tear right this very second. The house also passed another bill, 94-0, that would make it illegal to use or distribute software that "interferes" with online ticket sales. It's an attempt prevent future Hannah Montana situations, wherein ticket "hoarders" bought up and then resold tickets to the show. Ticketmaster ripping you off every fucking time you buy something, though, is still totally OK. [S-T, Trib]
A Bensenville man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for his ninth DUI conviction. [CBS 2]
Today was the last day of trading at the Mercantile Exchange. Starting Monday, all the floor-trading will be done at the Board of Trade building. [AP]
The CPD wants officers to pass a physical fitness test before they can have M4 assault rifles. [S-T]
So far, Chicago 2016's bid process has cost about $9 million. [AP]
Argh, just finish the banana.
Congratulations, Scott and Erin!

Re: fitness test for CPD officers before they can carry M4 assault rifles... sounds like a good idea UNTIL the first "underarmed" officer gets "outgunned" by a bad guy.
If this idea doesn't work, maybe we can force the bad guys to take a fitness test before they can carry dangerous weapons.
Come to think of it... are there any fat bad guys out there?
hmmm ... the city of chicago can't be held liable for the deaths of the E2 people for not actually holding that club up to code, SO ... they'll just try to make some crazy ass promoter's ordinance and put all the onus on the promoter than acutally doing their job. NICE.
Aw, thanks, Marg.
The city ordered the E2 second floor closed but the promoter opened it anyway. No one should of been on the second floor but an irresponsible promoter held a party. The city cant inspect every venue every night the promoter new the building had been ordered closed but money could be made so no the city isnt wrong the promoter put money ahead of safety.
The promoter didn't open that floor by himself: the venue was irresponsible in not working with the promoter to ensure a safe event.
