Springer Spouts Off On Ethics?

05-17-08_Springer.jpgThe controversial Northwestern Law School alum Jerry Springer spoke to the graduating law school class last night. He gave a speech that lasted about 15 minutes, and quoted his mother, Winston Churchill, and Socrates. The 1968 graduate told the Class of 2008:

"Let's assume that your prime discomfort with me is based on the ethics of what I do for a living. Well, that's a fair question -- worthy of serious response -- because on this your graduation day, I can tell you with some confidence that you too will likely deal with these same ethical considerations, no matter what path your career takes.''

Huh? He’s just doing what he does for the money, right? [S-T]

jerry! jerry! jerry!

eh.

what a wasted life.

He could have been great. instead he's a sleeze.

I don't care if his speech made the Gettysburg Address look like gibberish in comparison.

Northwestern Law School dropped down a notch by having this guy speak. What are they, a bunch of simple-minded celebrity worshipers? My condolences go to those students who opposed the choice.

I don't see anything unethical about what he does. He exploits people who sign up to be exploited.

After the Borat movie came out, Sacha Baron Cohen said he can't do the character anymore because people are all familiar with who Borat really is. Similarly, it's not like anyone signing on to be on Jerry Springer doesn't know what it's all about.

I think anyone who is unsure of Jerry Springer's background, really needs to take a listen to a wonderful biography done of him on This American Life. It was a real eye opener. I have much more respect for him than I ever thought I could have for a person who does what he does.
