You mean you are supposed to pay $ to bike the drive.
Never.
Forty dollars! I can drive my car there every day for free!
What do they need the money for anyway? It couldn't possibly be that expensive to put a police car at every on ramp.....
the chicago bicycle federation has to pay to shut it down i think, and organize, print those fancy shirts you get and what not.. theyre also the voice of the bikers in the most friendly bike city in the world so they have to be doing something right. I support them every year by paying the 40 bucks but this is it, theyve gotten enough from me - i do enough by not driving.
The $40 registration fee goes to the not-for-profit advocacy group that puts on the event every year.
You can get more information about the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation here: http://www.biketraffic.org/aboutus.php
I don't give a damn where the money goes, I'm not so stupid that I will give any group $40 to ride on the drive!
We, the people of Chicago paid for that road & we, the people of Chicago should be able to use it for free!
And if they shut it down to cars on one Sunday a year, then we should be able to ride our bikes on it for free!
Registration isn't just about the money. Going through the registration process and being issued a rider number is also an important safety issue, particularly for medical emergencies and for reliably re-matching parents and children who have become separated.
But I realize that you are surrounded by an invisible force field that makes you immune to potholes, and you have The Force to allow you to locate your children just by thinking about them... so I guess you can go ahead and sneak in.
I love the idea of riding a bike! I wrote about it on my site about chicago bachelor parties!
I'm a huge bike riding gal! But I do think 40 bucks is waaay too expensive. Heck you can rent a bike for just 10 bucks from the Chicago Park District!
