George Ryan's Final Appeal Denied

The United States Supreme Court denied George Ryan's appeal today, meaning our imprisoned former governor will stay just that: imprisoned.

Ryan's lawyer argued that Ryan didn't receive a fair trial after alternate jurors stepped in during deliberations, but the court apparently rejected that suggestion and without comment declined to hear Ryan's case. This is the end of the road for Ryan's appeals process, so it looks like he'll be serving out the rest of his 6-and-1/2-year sentence.

Can a modern-day Dickens start working on A Corruption Carol in which Blago goes to sleep and is haunted by images of Ryan in shackles? And Patrick Fitzgerald is Bob Cratchit? [AP, Reuters]

Patrick Fitzgerald as one of the "charitable subscription gentlemen" who call on Scrooge at this office in the beginning of the story, and who try to get Scrooge to see reason and to do the right thing.

If only we could get George Ryan sent to Tamms. He would be blubbering like Hulk Hogan's kid.
