City Worker on Leave for Sex Solictation

05-31-08_hooker.jpgFor the second time in six months, a city worker has been arrested for allegedly soliciting sex while on the job. Glendale James, who works for Streets and Sanitation, has been placed on administrative leave after he was arrested on Thursday morning when the “hooker” turned out to be an undercover cop.

In a city where cops beat their citizens, a public worker arranging hook-ups on the clock is not all that shocking. But what is shocking about this story: he allegedly offered $10 for intercourse.

$10 for intercourse? What’s all included for a $10 turn with a trick? Clearly, we’re in a recession if the price of sex has dipped that low.

"In a city where cops beat their citizens...."

That is the sort of simple-minded phrase that I expect from Leftcagoist.

Thousands of officers go out there every day to do a good job. A few low-lifes on video do not represent the whole force.

Oh, yes, there are thousands of BS complaints of abuse by gangbangers and plain liars. The result of giving credence to those complaints? The cops will back off. Crime will go up.

It shows the juvenile "...down with the man..." attitude of Leftcagoist when you put that phrase about cops in an article about prostitution.

Of, well. Liberals will be liberals.

I highly doubt that Tim was attempting to imply that ALL cops beat citizens. You are correct, there are many good cops, but there are also some that are less than good. Am I mistaken or wasn't there a fairly recent scandal (by recent, I mean within the last couple of years), where it was discovered that some cops beat suspects for confessions? Whether you want to believe it or not Ward Up, Chicago cops DO have a less than stellar reputation going at least as far back as the 1968 Democratic Convention.

On another subject, I can't imagine what one could get for $10. Sounds to me like Eliot Spitzer overpaid. Of course, maybe that's just the difference between cost of living in New York and Chicago.

I'm pretty left-leaning myself, but I have to agree Ward Up on this one. It's a very "sniveling wiener" thing to say, and we all know that painting with such a broad brush just indicates laziness in making a cheap point.

And fix your fucking tags!!! It seems like once a week, 90% of the site is italicized because you guys fuck up your tags.

and conservatives will always find something to whine about.

waaaaaaaaaaaaa! the libruls are bein' mean to meh!

The so-called good cops enable the bad cops buy keeping their mouths shut.

And yah, "buy" should be "by".

"In a city where cops beat their citizens...."

Way to disrespect 99.75 percent of the good officers in this city.

"In a city where cops beat their citizens...."

That infers that most cops beat civilians. Chicago has the 2nd largest police department in the nation, and the rogues are but a small number.

Unfortunately the work that most cops have to do every day is not played in the media again and again and again. If the good eggs had as much media play as what the few bad ones get, you might actually get a clue about what they deal with on a daily basis. They see more horrific things in a week than most of us will ever experience in a lifetime. Officers also see some incredibly wonderful acts of kindness that humanity has to offer, and have been known to disperse the same as well.

No doubt there tamalechica.
Unfortunately, that's how the world rolls. It is easier to pay attention to the negative since that is a much much smaller piece of the pie.
There is some pretty bad stuff that goes on and the police are the ones that have to go in and clean things up day after day. Actually I am surprised at the restraint they use sometimes. All it takes is a few wingnuts to screw things up though...

For some, it takes its toll on them personally. We have a family friend who was in homicide for eons. When I met him he was 39 but he looked like he was in the high end of his 50s. One of my high school friends was a tactical officer and they got in a very bad car crash pursuing some bad guys. He had multiple operations and frequently still has to deal with the pain for years afterwards. I could go on and on but the jist is the same.

I was right . . . there WAS a scandal recently. http://www.chicagoreader.com/features/stories/twentyquestions/

Without a doubt if good cops know about torture that's being done by other cops and they fail to speak up, they are just as guilty as if they'd done the torturing themselves.

"In a city where cops beat their citizens...."

I love reading this: when people like you generalize about other people - like cops - but can't stand it when other people generalize about people like you...most Chicago police officers are risking their lives every day, watching a $300K+ boss take over while they are working without a contract and a shortage of police officers and reading stuff like this from the likes of you - who have NO idea what it is like to be out there. Stop drinking that decaff latte and switch to the real stuff - you need to wake up.

"watching a $300K+ boss take over while they are working without a contract and a shortage of police officers"

And that boss has never worked the streets the way the guys and gals in patrol do!

It's a sad fact of life ... every group is judged by it's lowest, most offensive representatives. I ride a bike most days, and I have a hundred people in cars thinking I'm some kind of insane moron with a death wish. Why? Because there are 25 guys out there on bikes running stoplights and gunning down pedestrians while the vast majority of us follow the rules. Is this fair? Not really, but I'll live.

Chicago's finest have to admit the taint they bear thanks to Chicago's worst. You can't just ignore all the many examples of bad behavior that have come down, and it owes to too many years of the wrong people looking the other way. I know you've scrificed, but it doesn't matter. It's not fair, but you'll live. You'll just have to work harder for a long time and find some way to purge those who aren't worthy of your uniform.

Have to agree it is a bit of a cheap shot against cops and the city of chicago. Try to find a major city in the united states, or in the world, that doesn't have reported instances of police brutality.

"In a city where cops beat their citizens...."

Cheap shot. . .If I used your logic, after reading this article I would say:

"In Chicagoist, a blog in which incompetent people that try to call themselves writer. . ."

Which I know isn't true b/c I know a few of the people that write here, and they are fantastic writers both on the site and in various publications.

This generalization was a cheap shot, had nothing to do with the article you posted, and was unfounded.

Add that one to the portfolio and see if it gets you any actual writing/publication work.

Wow, maybe I should get my grammar write:

"In Chicagoist, a blog in which incompetent people try to call themselves writers,. . ."
